On the "general principles" thing Gotham was talking about, I just think of any "chess rule" as more like guidelines. Some are stricter than others but they're all still just guidelines. We deal with the same thing in software engineering where there are "rules" or whatever, but for the vast majority of those cases, there are sometimes edge cases where those rules don't apply and can be bent or broken. I like the word "guideline" more for stuff like that.

I started watching this channel in 2020 and my rating was 800 and now in 2021 my rating is 1589 in rapid and also in blitz its super cool 1457 and i am also winning my chess tournaments and my coach is also saying woah you are 1550 and it feel 1800+ Thanks A Lot Levy

My thought process during chess: My move: "What's preventing me from making an attack?" "What can I do to weaken that defense?" "Is that even WORTH my effort (is there a stronger, less move costly attack available)?" "How can I coordinate my pieces to make this a GREAT attack (if I decide to stick with the first idea)?" And finally, "is there a possible move of theirs that will make me play defense (if there is, I negate that move and play defense immediately)?" On their move: "What does that attack?" "What does it defend?" "What does it team up with?" "Are there other moves in the future that will make that move make more sense (like a devastating check that will ruin my coordination)?" Hope this helped somebody.

LEVY! Just now I played against a Pirc Defense with the London System. I did it the way you showed in the video and MY GOD. It was insane. Best game I've ever played. I knew exactly what to do, barely took time to think, got 97.9% accuracy and finished with a check mate with 7:30 on my clock in a 10 minute game. Good lord was it awesome. Thank you for showing me this. It was the win that got me to 1100 for the first time!

nice deflection at 1:04:21. there are a ton of those in puzzles. they are so common that I now default to looking for sacrificial checks when nothing else looks good. it's either that or sac the queen in some way, beloved theme of all puzzle.

Day 30: Of requesting Levy to cover opposite coloured bishop endgames. Especially when you have a slight material advantage of being up by two or three pawns against your opponent and you both have opposite coloured bishops as well.

Lev thank you for all your instruction. I have been studying and playing the Vienna since you posted your video and it is my go to opening with white 1. e4 e5. This video gave me a light bulb moment in your first game with the e6, b6 opening. I switched to the Classical Dutch about a month before you posted the Vienna Game and love playing this as black. I play 1. d4 e6. I was always disappointed when someone opened with e4 because then I could not play the Dutch (1. ... e6), I played the Scandinavian. Although not identical, the Vienna and Dutch seem very similar to play (structures and king side attacks). In game one when I saw how you moved Nge7, it reminded me of one of the Vienna variations and reinforced how I could get my pieces into Vienna/Dutch positions that I love to play. I started playing some non-rated games with this opening and I have had a great time using it. A lot of times my opponent is thoroughly confused. If the situation allows, I play Dutch/Vienna concepts and get my king-side attack going. Other times, I find my opponent will believe I am playing a French Defense, and then I slap the Rozman French stuff on them. With the play b6 followed by Bb7 it can transpose beautifully into some Rozman French strategies and tactics. Also, I believe it is advantageous to get a queen side fianchetto-ed bishop in the Dutch. This does not happen very often when I play the Classical Dutch (1. d4 e6) because White fianchettoes their king side bishop first. When I watched some earlier videos and you talked about your e6, b6 system I did not understand why you thought what you thought. You talk about its flexibility and now I get it. I have committed the next couple months to deeper opening study of the Dutch, but when I finish, I will be downloading your course on e6/b6. You have opened my mind and eyes to the possibilities.
