In today's FM23 Tips video, Jonny looks at how to prepare for BIG MATCHES in Football Manager 2023 by looking at all of the things you can do in the lead up to a crunch game to get the edge. These tips can all be applied to regular matches, but become especially useful before important lague matches and in the later rounds of cup competitions to ensure that your side emerge victorious in tight encounters.

One thing that you may have missed, is selecting the training sessions leading up to the game. For one, I would include "defending wide" and "aerial defense" as training sessions based on the opposition's strengths from the data hub.

Great video, would love a companion video about how to "read" the most common items in the analyst/scouting report, I feel like 80% of the info in there I can understand but don't quite know how to actually combat. For example you talked about their central player who regains possession more than any other player, is there anything for my team to actually DO there? Avoid him, challenge him, force their offense outside, force MY offense outside, etc?

Wouldn't it make more sense to force Cardiff to do there build up through McGuiness by actually tight mark his partner and just do a high press on McGuiness to force mistakes?

We technically did. By not preventing short goalkeeper distribution we were allowing him the ball, and then pressing hard. By putting my striker on him, we created a 1-1 against the weaker centre back

Great analysis mate! Really useful! But I usually check these things out maje a decision (tactical or player wise) and proves to be the wrong one! So, I'm looking forward to the post game analysis video! PS: Do you really use a note book? I can show you my "book" of notes 😁😁😁

@@TheManagersSeat Another question is this: You don't use this method for every game? And If not why? And another: Do you clear the tactic slot after every game and you copy the tactic again to tweak it for the next opponent?

It can be applied to any game in reality, sometimes FM will be FM though and you’ll still lose 😂

On the Next Opponent screen, how can I get the PASSING - GOALKEEPERS and ASSISTING - MIDFIELDERS graphs to show up? I can only get them for my own team.

I've never seen anyone try and point to so many analysis tools to justify a tweak of an exploit tactic before. Five players on attack duty, no central midfield, defensive wingers on support and the IWBs inverting, just like all the top performing exploit tactics. If the keeper's going to clear it long, might be an idea to have a midfield to compete for the headers and second balls.

Hi, im new to this game and this is very helpfull. I do have a question, when i eneter the data hub it doesnt give me the stats like in the vid...i tried to edit it but im not seeing the option to highlights midfielders, gk etc.. assisting i cant find at all, can you tell me where and how to edit this? im on fm24

How do you get opposition player analytics into your next opposition report? I only ever seem to get opposition team analytics in mine

You need to make sure you have the correct staff, analysts in particular

@@TheManagersSeat yep I have all the correct staff. I found the solution. I cleared all analysis from Team Performance and now I can see individual opposistion analysis, Not ideal because it would be nice to see both

This is great but anyone else have problems with setting the preferred scout and analyst for the next opposition in the scouting area? I set them...hit conform...they go grey....then when I navigate out of the scouting area and then back in they are reset to "Scouting Pool" and "Analyst Pool" It's always been this way for me. But I get the reports I want by setting the same guys under staff responsibilities.

Hey, how come your squad comparison is different than mine, i am using the same skin, but my squad comparison is to compare the opposition to the league general not to my team.

I’m not too sure, could be the level of club you have? Maybe less staff? No data analysts?

For some reason I have to choose specific scouts and analysts after every match for the next opposition. Even if I confirm and it all greys out, the next day they both go back to scouting pool. Is that normal or a bug maybe?

I would have not marked the defender who is poor at passing but man marked all the options he would have to pass out and then close him down when he gets the ball. So Man mark the other defenders and midfielders and never mark him. encouraging the other players to pass to him. Then close him down and hopefully steal the ball off of him.

Not sure about this video. Would have been great to have a « save scumming » of the same game to see what différences the tweaking make. Tbf, it really looks like you would have win the game without these tweaks…

The game itself is almost irrelevant - see it as a part of a tutorial to show you the areas you can access to get the best out of the game
