Reminder that Corrupt is still standard legal. It's a great tool to close out games when playing mono black, or to help you get back into the game if you get to 6 mana against mono red

it ages very well indeed, have me thinking of why i hardly run it anymore, the answer is march of wretched sorrow, it's cheaper, instantaneous - just faster period. corrupt can get too bulky in bo1 as much as i love it .

@zxslipperz007 I'm still running a CGB mono-black list from before the set rotation (with a few small changes of course). Corrupt is always a nice "Surprise! The game is over!"

Love the concept - am considering cutting one cut down and one go for the throat for 2 Virtue of Persistence. Still a removal spell, plus adds some long term longevity

26:20 You were either betting they didn't have an untapped land, and went for a better board state - which you did - or were betting they didn't have at least 2 lands, one of which untapped, and were ready not to discard them to the Prank you were playing for discard a turn later. Not about to bet which play wins more often than the other, since you're giving up pressure against a deck that absolutely loves not being pressured, but I get why anyone would validate either play.

I find the hidetsugu mill deck to still be very fun and it still does pretty well imo. Id love to see an update from you because im uncreative and have a "if it aint broke dont fix it," mentality.

I'm kind of sad that the final conclusion was "don't do anything interesting or different in deck building, just swap a few copies of Rankle's Prank into the existing black 'good stuff' deck."

@@HammarHeart I know, it's just that I'm an inveterate Johnny and am annoyed how this deck kicks ass while having practically zero synergy because the cards are so powerful. The closest thing this deck has to a combo is...discarding Underdog to Lilliana or Prank, I guess?

I throw in skitter to generate the tokens. Vrall also works because they lose life when you lose creatures. Unfortunately you can't run cursebound witch or shambling ghast to have cheap sac effects anymore...

If you prank and both players are below 4 health, its a draw or it somehow resolve differently for both players (dont wanna use wildcards just to test it)

So this is just a ... normal monoblack meta deck, with Rankle's Prank in place of a card that would probably perform better in this setup? I don't really get this one, gonna be honest; I'm not sure just sticking a card into an existing deck accomplishes much beyond making that deck worse.

I agree with you on a certain level, but you also have to consider where meta standard is at right now. There aren't many ways to play in top 500 mythic while also trying to create or pilot a unique deck every day. And sometimes, trying a card like this is how you find hidden gems that were slept on. But not so often this far into sets.

That with the current board state and subsequent attacks you can win in three turns. Or to put it in another way, that it will take three turns to reduce their life total to zero given the current board state.

People are still playing that terrible Haughty Djinn deck? I hope when it finally rotates WotC doesn't print another Djinn to replace it. Just let the "desperately counter everything my opponent does" decks die so players can learn what actually works instead of just hoping for good match ups and bad starting hands in Bo1.
