Learn to wind a center-pull ball of yarn by hand. No need for a ball winder with this trick! All you need is an empty toilet paper roll, scissors and yarn. Benefits of learning this trick: easy to organize yarn, avoid yarn barf, cost effective, and works for any yarn (although if you have bulky yarn, I would suggest an empty paper towel roll instead).

Thank you! This is simple to do with a strong tube, such as from a roll of tin foil or plastic wrap we use in the kitchen.

Yes! Those would work great! And be much sturdier than a toilet paper roll.

Fantastic! FYI I recently started buying bamboo toilet paper and paper towels. The cardboard rollers are much sturdier than the regular ones. 😉

Oh no you didn't. ❤ I will stop giving my wolfdog pup my tp paper cores. 😂 I've seen the thumb wrap and find it doable but not a very comfortable action when the cake has grown to a certain place. This one looks like it resolves my issue around using my thumb as the core for a centerpull wrap without a yarn winder. Thank you.

💛💛💛 All you need is one to try this out 😂 I know exactly what you mean. I don't usually get good results when I use my thumb. But it comes out so nice and neat with a tp roll. Hope your pup let's you give it a try!
