So my family are 4 generation farmers and my great grandmother had planted a rose that is still blooming today. It is yellow and I do not know what kind it is. But it is my grandma's (87 yr now)-- mother in law's planting. I live in zone 4a. Inside my grandma's house who is 8o she has a 60 year old wax plant that her mother in law gave her when she got married. It is huge! It is wild to see how these plants can have long long lives. Thanks for this video -- this spring I bought 2 DA roses and I am trying hard to keep them for the years to come.

Oh, lovely message, Martie! I just bought Olivia rose for my niece, hope that rose will be in her garden for many years, legacy of rose lover auntie Olga.. haha. 60 year old wax plant! That is totally impressive!

Hi Olga, I can’t thank you enough for your amazing videos. You wouldn’t believe, I binge watched and watching your beginner series. Until I watched all your videos I was in a feeling that it’s impossible to grow roses organically. Our local ARS also mentioned that it’s a bit of uphill and challenging situation. I started my first year of rose gardening with David Austin ( majority) and kordes roses. I have a special spot/interest for climbing roses more than shrub roses. I live in KY. I have few questions for you. I hope I hear back from you ❤ 1. When you meant slow release fertilizer in this video, did you mean like plant tone/rose tone or artificial slow release fertilizer like nitroform? 2. Do you think, I have to cover up my canes in burlap with leaves or use some fleece cloth ? 3. Can you make a video on how to care for roses when you winterize them in garage (I have 5 standard tree roses) and few shrub roses in pot like desdemona , perfuma earth angel and hot coca.

What's your advice for zone 6 gardeners? I believe covering the canes with some kind of cloth or burlap as well as mulching the base may be helpful in protecing the climbing rise from cold snow, rain, and wind.

I got my generous gardener potted rose this fall. It’s canes are only 10-12 inch tall. Should I still secure them to the porch post for the winter? Thanks!
@OlgaCarmody2 жыл бұрын
Good morning Deanna, Yes, you would want to do that. Your rose is a baby and wind can damage it. I am not sure where you live and if you need to put your rose to garage for cold weather, but it is a good idea to train those long canes as horizontally as you can, you would get more blooms this way next year on them. Happy gardening!

We had a good frost and snow so I guess now I can’t trim all the wild canes??
@OlgaCarmody2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is a great time to get rid of those long canes. I am still waiting for my freeze. Today I was out in a light sweater, so warm…

@@OlgaCarmody we had a couple hard frost and snow and today it was really nice out. I was going to ask you as I am cleaning up all the leaves. If I put the leaves in a garbage bag do I close the bag or leave open?
