WD 40 cleans good too. Hand screw driver maybe better in this case. Never lend your trailer :-) Hope all ok after the looting etc. Do you connect a chain or wire rope from the trailer to the car? Very helpful. Tnx.

Hi The wires for my 7 pin Ford Ranger plug are different colours as to the standard colours mentioned. can you perhaps give me some advice on how to connect my 7 pin trailer plug (female) ?

Having just wired my trailer plug, not all lights/indicators/4 way flashers work. I only had the new tow bar fitted this week, how do I know if it's my wiring or the tow bar?? (Sorry, my excuse is I'm female and can't think outside the box!!! )

You might want to check the wiring is connected properly , if its not the trailer lights plug , then it might be the wiring of your jeep /car/van/truck or it could be a blown fuse or relay switch usually found in the engine bay or under the steering wheel.

@@seannolan3458 yeah, the wiring on the trailer blew the fuse on the car. Wiring was too old so I've bought magnetic lights to use until I rewire!!! not so much of a bargain buying something second-hand if you have to renew it all is it??? Thank you !

Excellent video! After following all the steps, my left hand brake and park light is not working. Can anybody perhaps advise on how to check the wiring of the trailer lights? All other lights are working just fine.

Use a multimeter and select dc voltage.

Use a 12 volt power supply and connect the earth wire (white - if wired correctly) to the negative terminal of the power source and then use a probe from the positive terminal to power each of the plugs screws/holes and see how the trailer is wired.

if same colours then follow the tutorial, if different colours then use a multimeter on continuity to map them out.

Nice movie, who shows the wiring diagram from the connector that is mounted on the towbar plate, everybody shows the trailer plug, can't find the wiring diagram for the other side. in other words, the wiring for the side with the dust flap on it.

@fishingkayakssa The plug with the flap is the female. The diagram to be used is exactly opposite to he male plug shown. ie. No. 1. 7. and 4. in the vertical always stay the same. No. 2. and 6. switch over and No. 3. and 5. This is the South African SABS standard.

The pin numbers and wire colours are the same. If you want to connect tow harness to your car and its a modern vehicle, you will need to go to the manufacturer or a reputable parts shop to interface unit to suit the Canbus system in your car. you cant just connect wires into the light circuits as they did on older cars.

I would say world wide save for North America. Of course we have to do it differently than the rest of the world.

Australia and New-Zealand use a different standard too. AS-2513 is different from ISO-1724, the key differences are that Pin-2 is for Reverse Lights and Pin-5 is for Electric Brakes. One Australian caravan manufacturer use dangerous non-standard wiring and encourage vehicle owners to dangerously modify their vehicles electrical system, making them incompatible with AS-2513 compliant trailers and caravans.
