How to wire a spur socket to ring circuit. Add a spur socket to ring main.

In this video I show how to wire a spur socket to a ring final circuit using 2 methods, 1. By using a junction box and connecting into the ring circuit cable. 2. By connecting into the back of an existing socket. I explain the ring final circuit wiring, the spur wiring and cable protection / overloading using some basic diagrams and I give a practical demo showing how to physically carry out the wiring.

As a qualified sparks, this has been explained in a fantastic way. This has a how to, and more importantly, why you shouldn’t explained. I also love the use of the Wago 222 blocks. Use these all the time now as they’re 18th approved. Well done on a brilliant video sir.

Good luck finding an electrician who will sign off your installation. Their reputation is at stake, so firstly they will want to check every cable run and connection, then run the required tests, so that will be as expensive as any complete install.

I would love to see a vid on extending the ring main by adding multiple sockets. I understand the theory behind it, but the practical side still does my head in when trying to figure out how I'd do it in my house.
