Is there a way to power this meter from a source other than the AC supply? I want the meter to function and not dim at low AC voltage

For the power leads to the monitor...... the 2 wires you connect to the screws as you showed....do you fuse these? I know the monitor draw must be incredibly low....but it's still an electrical device connected to a 120V/60Hz ( USA) or even 220V/50Hz source. Would it be advisable to add a 1A quick acting fuse?...and if so, only on one of the two legs?

: Yes you can fuse one of the legs. For the test I didn't.

i just saw this as i was trying to figure out if these things took AC or DC to power the meter up. For projects where you want to monitor the input to a PSU, you can use the same cable after the IEC socket which i find are sold cheap fused with glass fuse type but typically rated at 10A. You can add your own 1A fuse if you want. The largest danger is the wires, if say there is a short it will be the wires that melt and so your fuse only needs to be smaller than your wires. The worst case is where a wire shorts and pulls all the current, however using the british wiring system our plugs already have a 13A fuse to the surge protector, then another 13A fuse to the UPS, the UPS has a glass 10A fuse, the IEC socket i am using to the PSU another 10A glass fuse. Theres a lot of fuses already. If you are american and you use this definitely fuse it or you can add both a socket breaker and/or a resettable fuse. see about using a GFCI on your socket instead if american. everyone else around the world have gfci on our mains.

@@System0Error0Message ...thank you for sharing your thoughts. This question ( for me) is old and since the time I wrote my question, I simply went ahead and added a small fuse on one power-supply leg of each of the meters....cheers, and Merry Christmas.

I have only amp current meter so they told me that mine work with ac and dc but its only ac ampmeter so it wont work to see dc current on my power supply
@oscarvalencia6191 Жыл бұрын
can that be use in DC ?
@AlwynNicholas Жыл бұрын
That one can't be used. But there are those that can be used for DC.

you have reason, this meter is not accurate. I put a Dremel of 150 W and it shows 0 amps. It's wrong. I put toroidal probe on the live (red) wire, but it doesn't works properly
