Thank you!!! I have almost the same exact size house that we are building! This explains a lot!!

One of the main reasons we chose steel building was to avoid wildfire damage. Spray foams are extremely inflammable. We used fiberglass and another layer of fiber glass in the interior wood structure!
@1845Barndo29 күн бұрын
I think you might have some outdated information. Modern spray foam is not flammable at all. It meets all building codes regarding flame retardancy. We have even conducted our own tests to address certain concerns and have confirmed its safety.

Great video. 12gauge code for all electrical? Noticed the can lights have 12 gauge wire as well.

Very interesting! Thank you for posting this. Curious about the perlin(?) that attaches the outside metal wall to the wood inside. So how is heat transfer stopped from going through the metal because the perlin is touching the outside metal? Or is there a slight transfer but it’s minimalized because there is spray foam above and beneath it?
@jasongrinnell1986 Жыл бұрын
You are talking such a slight thermal transfer compared to the stability of the internal structure. I’m not sure that there is a issue with it at all.
@meisdetermined Жыл бұрын
@@jasongrinnell1986 right I wasn’t sure either. That was why I asked. I just remember hearing that direct contact allows tranfer. Like a radiant barrier in a roof. But maybe with the insulation covering so much of the metal it slows it down a large enough percentage that it’s negligible??

Looks like quality work. Do you have any Hawaii connections? I'd love to have a Bardominium on Oahu.

how is the horizontal 2x4 attached to the perlin? metal screw, ramset nail, nut/bolt.....?
@1845Barndo29 күн бұрын
Ramset in most cases, all depending on the steel design. Rarely Screws, mostly ramset and nut/bolt

Why not spray foam before framing? Wouldn’t that make it easier?
@1845Barndo8 ай бұрын
That is a personal choice for us, yes it would be easier, but we prefer to install all exterior penetrations before we foam, so we don't have to break the original foam envelope. Thanks for watching!

in this video you mentioned --after the spray foam the structure would be climate controlled. how are you going to do that? does the hvac go throughout the metal structure?
@user-pj1fw3eu8v8 ай бұрын
In the video, I believe you said that you would spray open cell foam to the back side of the r-panel. Did you mean to say closed cell foam? I would think that open cell would be like a wet sponge due to condensation.
@1845Barndo8 ай бұрын
We do both, open and closed. Closed does provide a built in vapor barrier, but makes panel replacement almost impossible if it is ever needed. We use Tyvek at times to eliminate panel removal issues if we go that route. Thanks for watching.

Curious why only 5 inches of open cell on your ceilings. I figured in TX you would want more than r19 in your ceilings.

is there Any possible way I can get one built in golden valley AZ...I done some research an there's no builders there for this particular home do your company build in other states or travel to build for your customers😁

You say you're gonna spray the ceiling? what happens if you get a really bad hailstorm and and the roof gets damaged the roof, how do you take the sheets of steel off when they are all spray foamed? you should put a plywood roof barrier down and then put some water Is barrier down, then metal roof on top so you can always replace the sheets when needed without harming the insulation.. Putting insulation right up to the sheets is absolutely dumb

Thermal Bridging, yes, nothing wrong with that cavity.

When your ceiling joists are 2ft centered like that Are you using 5/8 sheetrock

The 5/8 sheetrock helps the homeowner get lower insurance rate. I know that’s not what you asked but wanted to mention in case you were considering putting up that thickness.

My builder wants to use vynil insulation instead of spray foam
@1845Barndo4 ай бұрын
Nothing wrong with vinyl, it just doesn't seal as well as foam without a lot of extra work. We use foam for its practicaly and application. We also use vinyl in some cases, but for heated and cooled areas we have found foam is better overall for our builds.
