Excellent, thank you for sharing this! As a survivor, I found this to be a great presentation. I dissociated and repressed the memory for 32 years before I remembered. And now after another 17 years, I am still a work in progress, but I’ve published my memoir and cofounded the nonprofit 5WAVES, so I believe I can consider myself in the post-traumatic growth category. None of it’s been easy, but healing and growth are possible!

I am a brother to an older sister who sexually abused me. It took me over 20 years to say something. I was ‘expelled’ from the family - both as my own doing and as the familial response. I am still not heard, I am still not validated - this is a hard topic - my sister is my only close relative left - and with the collapse of my adult life she remains the only one I can turn to for help. My mother died 3 years ago and simply refused to believe acknowledge anything I said - so we live in limbo surrounding a topic that ‘must not be discussed’.
