The most simplified way to introduce/practice vowels and work on class/tone at the same time. You took very complicated and intimidating aspects of Thai Language and actually made it enjoyable! This should be the standard for all Thai Language courses for English speakers! You did a tremendous amount of work in one hour. Thank you very much!

The thai vowels will take a long time to learn and pronounce. I would recommend a video by Stu Jay Raj Thai vowels. He explain them in a very easy way and easy to remember. He explains it in a very simple way based on the position where the sound comes from in the mouth and how the vowels connect:)

I have a question about this word ฟิสิกส์. It's pronounced fisiks and means physics in English. What is the symbol above the ส at the end? I'm sorry it's so small. It looks like the number 6, tilted 45 degrees clockwise. Also, what is the symbol above the kor kai in the word เก็บ?

This instruction was top notch. So clear. Perfect pace. Perfect amount of repetition. I literally just started studying Thai on my own after a visit there. I agree with this commenter though about the up, flat, and down with other constants besides the 3 covered. But I’m sure I’ll find that.
@poochidprommakun8759
@poochidprommakun8759 9 ай бұрын
Let me answer your question. I'm Thai and hope that my comment will help you to understand more Thai language. Actually, you can combine each Thai consonant with all vowels. However, not all consonant vowel combinations will have the meaning. Thai consonants are divided into 3 groups which are up, flat, and down. The main purpose is not to put tone marks into wrong group. Tone marks make different intonations in wording. However, without tone marks, each consonant also has their own tone. When combining with vowels, the sound of word mainly comes from the sound of each vowel, but the tone might be different between each word even using the same vowel because of the different in tone of the consonant itself. Hope that these explanations can help or may be more confusing Ha Ha Ha.

How do we make falling tones.
@IgetThais
@IgetThais 3 ай бұрын
To make a falling tone, you can think about throwing a rock. Start from your normal speaking pitch, then raise it slightly before letting it fall, similar to throwing a rock upward and watching it come back down. Another analogy is going up a hill and then coming down. Begin slightly higher than your normal speaking pitch and then let it dip down at the end of the syllable. The word “sara” meaning vowel: which vowel is “sa” in “sara”? You show the word sara written in Thai but I don’t see any of the 28 vowels used in the sound “sa”? Is “sa” in sara a consonant???
@IgetThais
@IgetThais 10 ай бұрын
In Thai, there are both visible and invisible "sara ะ" in words. Let's take the word สระ (sa-ra) as an example. It consists of two syllables. The second syllable, "ระ" (ra), contains a visible sara ะ, which is seen and pronounced as "ra" with the full sound. However, the first syllable is where the invisible sara ะ. Even though it's not visibly present, it combines with the vowel "ะ" and is pronounced as "sa," producing a half sound. As a result, the word สระ (sa-ra) has two syllables: the first syllable with the invisible sara ะ, pronounced as "sa" with a half sound, and the second syllable "ra," pronounced with the full sound. This occurs because the word is borrowed from the Pali language.

What runs through my mind is that compared to Thai, French is easy! Next is, Thais can never get away with the lazy way of native English speakers never studying how the language works, because there’s so little grammar!

Yup. I had 4 years of French in high school and a year (largely repeating the first couple years of high school French) in college, and because it uses largely the same alphabet as English, it was easier to get up and running. With Thai, there's a whole new alphabet to learn.

If you're unsure where to begin with learning Thai, don't worry! Here are a few steps to get you started: Start with basic phrases and vocabulary such as everyday expressions, greetings, and useful phrases. This will help you in practical conversations and interactions and familiarize yourself with basic pronunciation. Learning the sounds of the language will help you build a strong foundation. Immerse yourself in the language: Immerse yourself in Thai culture and media, such as watching Thai movies, TV shows, or listening to Thai music. This exposure will help you become more familiar with the language and its nuances. Stay consistent and motivated: Learning a new language takes time and dedication. Set aside regular study sessions, practice consistently, and stay motivated by setting goals for yourself. Remember, everyone learns at their own pace, so be patient with yourself and enjoy the process. Good luck on your Thai language learning journey! :)
