This is absolutely the best explanation and clearest example of this type of music composition I've seen on KZfaq (for me personally having spent over two years trying to teach myself from zero knowledge by watching too many videos). Thank you and please keep making the videos (perhaps one on counter-melody?)

Absolutely fantastic video. Building a piece step-by-step this way really makes it seem much more achievable for beginners like me. Really inspirational. Also the music you composed here, I could hear it with added strings etc, so absolutely could take this idea, start off on piano and add other instruments. Thanks a lot Simon, really appreciate this video! (So glad I taught myself music theory, it helped a lot to understand why you used certain scale degrees etc)

Thanks and all the best. Thanks and all the best. Examples in video are very good. For all? no Musicians like pianists, which play well, but technically well can improvise like in jazz, can in 5-20 minutes compose a song. With 4-8 bars music main motive. Immediately transferred to the Midi Editor or to Cubase or Live with Encore. First of all, the chords are not important but music motive. Best with repetition.. Your suggestions are very good and as everyone knows, since J.S.Bach or W.A.Mozart known. Even with Mister Bizet. I am happy for you. In All Your Videos you show ... secrets how to compose about the labels and music companies want remain silent. Why silent? Music is also a product which ones can you sell. Music brings a lot of profits for music companies or music corporations but not for the musicians. Your videos show great Examples for all. Also for artists without contracts with Sony or Universal Music. respect for you. Regards.Marek Maria Lipski

Your guides here show me how better to use all of those things to make real music! 😱😀 Meanwhile, what do you think about a video getting into voice leading? I've learned enough to know that getting your chords into smooth inversions makes for good voice leading, and everything sounds awesome that way. What do you think?

I typically write accompaniment last, which does mean mine suffer; but different strokes for different folks, I guess. I do melody first, then the chords. I never write octaves, because I imagine performers or orchestrators would use their intuition to place those. Might help to know I'm not a DAW guy; I just use staff paper or Musescore, at this point.

There are different ways to write music and I also use paper and piano at times to gain inspiration, I think it is whatever works for you. Thank you for watching!

Absolutely amazing! Simon your videos are always top draw! Would love to see how you might go on to flush this out to an orchestral sketch ;)

Thank you - I'll see how I get on with turning it into an orchestral sketch - if it goes well, I'll make a video on it! :-)
