Crazy and Insane Villains in Anime and Manga can be some of the most interesting archetypes of characters; However, it is very easy to mess their stories up and create poor or dangerous representations of mental health. So today we are looking at what I believe to be great character design through My Hero Academia's Endeavor, Himiko Toga, and Twice, Monster's Johan Liebert, Danganronpa's Junko Enoshima, Future Diary's (Mirai Nikki) Yuno Gasai, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood's Father and Solf J. Kimblee, One Piece's Doflamingo, And The Joker.

I don't view characters with a lot of baggage as villains, and you could call a lot of characters villains if you do so lol. I had a pretty crappy dad, and I wish my father cared as much about me as Endeavor lol. My father never really acknowledged or tried to make amends for the things he has done in the past, and it's just a cycle that he doesn't try to break away from. I view Endeavor as admirable in a way. Most people don't try to take responsibility for the sins or mistakes. If they were in his place, they wouldn't take a potential bullet or knife wound to make up for what they did wrong. I know damn well I wouldn't lmao. The fact that he deservingly receives ZERO forgiveness from his family but he still tries to save people is respectable. He's committed to serving his community and protecting everyone.

@@rkthetrashartist3887 I think he was on the edge of being a villain. He still did his work as a hero properly. I feel that he, rather than a villain, is another representation of how this society has failed people. It really feels that in Hero Academia, one could legamitely argue that society itself is a villain with how it leaves behind those that don't fit perfectly into its assigned roles.

On the topic of Junko, I've watched a few different takes on her and I think my favorite interpretation is that she's just as much of a victim of her despair-obsession as everyone else. It's easy to assume from how she's presented that she's a detached psycho who doesn't take anything seriously, but I'd say that's a front. While it's true and pivotally important that her analytic skills make life boring and predictable, and thus despair is the only thing that gives her life meaning, some extra material sheds some light on what that's really like. **(Spoilers for Danganronpa Zero and Danganronpa: IF)** Danganronpa Zero, though it takes place from the perspective of a Junko with altered memories for a majority of its runtime, does show us a Junko that cares heavily for her boyfriend, Yasuke Matsuda. She's attached at his hip for most of the novel, if I recall. It's important to note that the implication is that this is how her personality might be without the more villainous aspects of it. We see a Junko who cares for her friends and those around her. Then in Danganronpa IF, which takes place from the perspective of Mukuro in an alternate timeline where she doesn't die, Junko confronts Mukuro before she's about to put everything she's got into killing her and for a while, there's no eccentricity, no antagonism, she's teasing but in an almost supportive way when she thinks about their memories of their school life. She says she loves her, and then solemnly says goodbye. Junko doesn't want to kill her. Beneath everything she genuinely cares about her the most. This is all to say that Junko isn't just a crazy person with no attachment. Rather, it's that attachment that Junko uses to inflict despair on herself. When you consider that, a lot of her actions take on a different light: She betrays and kills Mukuro in the killing game *because* she loves her so much, and that would cause her an immeasurable amount of despair. She ends up killing Matsuda, the one she loved more than anyone, with her own hand; after she does she's laughing and crying from the despair because of the grief and pleasure of the act She lets her classmates survive the tragedy because she cares about them, then orchestrates the killing game because she wanted to feel the direct despair for being responsible for her closest friends murdering each other. Junko loves and cares as much as a normal person, but she's cursed with that despair addiction, so she's forced to tear down anything she ever loves.

Honestly him and Toga would be complete assets to the heros if society didn't look down on them so much. I was hoping he would also touch on Spinner (then again I'm still watching the video lol) because he was also made a villian by society simply refusing to accept him for how he looks, espectually with what just happened in the manga and how his treatment has had a larger effect on people like him. But that's also late game so I can see why he would consider leaving that out. But even Spinner cares about his friends and did all he could to make sure they would succeed. None of Shigiraki's team is really bad people, they just ended up in this position because of the society they live in.

I actually quite admired Kimblee in Brotherhood and the manga because, while an absolutely horrible psychopath, he does have a code and he's true to it even beyond his death. He holds everyone to the same standard as he does himself. He's willing to stake his life on his outlook and follow through, he holds great admiration for characters that do the same, even if they are opponents. There's something respectable in that. Much in the same way King Bradley/Wrath remained true to his own values and goals, there's just something about someone sticking to their guns even at the cost of their own life that even if you disagree with their stance, you can admire that aversion to hypocrisy.

I think it's because we highly value those traits in people as well as ourselves. Hypocrites are insufferable right? The thing about it is that hypocrisy (at least when one is aware of it) actually holds some benefit to the person. You can't always stick to your guns or do something "if it's the last thing you'll do". Sometimes you have to step back, realize that there is something wrong, and try to rectify it. Cognitive dissonance is something that human beings need to survive. The most important thing is what you actually do with that cognitive dissonance once it is brought to your attention. Most people sit on it and deny it, which is why we find hypocrites annoying to begin with. It'd be a GOOD thing if Kimblee or any of the villains in FMA were hypocrites, because then there would be some potential to realize and understand their flaws. With a person who's 100% set to anything, there's no getting through to them or them changing their ways. A person who is apathetic to being a piece of crap isn't really respectable to me at all. They KNOW how horrible they are but they still continue to do the same thing over and over again. Those types of people are way worse than hypocrites.

These villain videos are so unique and nuanced. You're so articulate. A villain with a god complex that I can think of is probably Muzan from Demon Slayer since he's basically trying to achieve Godhood, considers everyone beneath him and views himself not being 100% perfect as something akin to a sin.

When it comes to Junko its not really much to say than what you've already said. She's a mixture of a lot of things. The kick off for what she is started when she a child and destroyed her own sand castle just cause and wanted to be sad. She's obsessed with despair and the unpredictable. She changes personalities because she's get bored sticking with just one. I don't think you can limit her to just one thing because she's shown to be this embodiment of chaos.

Too bad her backstory never really had any relevance in game or even the Anime. All we saw out about her was just her saying vague words about despair without any explanation and all things she did before were just plot contrivance because author was so lazy he couldn't find a better reason why students were forced to murder each other in a school... In the end Junko may have had some potentially ideas but all she came out to be is just an embodiment of fanservice and nothingness...

While idk about the mental illness angle, Junko as a character is majorly influenced by something out of her control (for the most part),her talent. In the world of Danganronpa where people are born with superhuman levels of talent, Junko's talent in particular is an incredibly sharp double edged sword. Her Ultimate Analytic talent allows her to pretty much understand anything and everything she sees. Not only that but her talent also allows her to learn just about anything, she even learned how to program an AI by stealing the knowledge of one of her classmates. You understand what this means don't you? Since she was little she had the ability to understand everything around her which means that by some point life stopped being interesting and the only place she found some kind of relief from her boredom was in chaos and Despair. I think one of the best ways to describe Junko would be: *self destructive* . She's smart enough to bring about the end of the world but she also always make sure that whatever she does always has a small chance to blow up in her face. Junko is essentially a girl who is constantly trying to fight against her own boredom and is even willing to kill her own bf (or at least someone she had strong feelings for) in order to experience the crushing feeling of losing someone dear to her.

As someone dealing with mental illness myself (and recently having felt/feeling more "insane" than ever before) I absolutely want to point out how much I appreciate the point you make at the beginning. Because it can't be said often enough that even if "insanity" (and yes, exactly, might have different definitions relative to whom you ask) in media is often linked to villany, violence, being "dangerous", etc, this is rarely the case in real life. Which leads me to a big THANK YOU for backing your analysis up with the right research. Because there is already more than enough bad representation out there, and even if it might be entertaining, it messes things up and makes it all the harder for the real people out there struggling with such issues. Also I'm still glad to see you thrive in these longer, more elaborate videos. Keep on the good work :). And have fun doing so. About your actual video, so well done, I enjoyed very much. You picked great examples to illustrate that so many mental health conditions are "created" by a multitude of elements. I'm not as eloquent as you, especially not right now, but you did great.

loved this vid, though i feel in the western section at the end, Jinx from Arcane would have been a great example with what is believed to be a combination of PTSD, BPD, and Schizophrenia as a result of her accidentally killing most of her family, believing her sister abandoned her, and being taken in by an extremist with a somewhat similar traumatic background. I know she technically is portrayed as a protagonist, but let's be real, she's done things just as horrible as others on this list.

The title is wrong. Yuno is not a villain and the Joker is a movie/comic character, not anime. Sorry if you agree with me but Yuno is not a villain she had to kill because she was in a death game, it was kill or be killed. She only wants to protect Yukki, she even sacrificed her second? (I can't remember) world self to let the game end. Tell me where do you see a villain sacrifice themselves for the protagonist?

Just finished the video and damn what a treat, loved the deep dive into Hero Acadamia's Toga and Danganronpa's Junko respectively. I love the take on Junko representing an indivdual with Dissociative Identity Disorder, with the end focus more leaning into Borderline Personality disorder! She certainly inadvertantly 'brings' (dear god, am I right lmao) people together seemingly acting as a Loki of sorts. It's funny how she claims she is bored of the world when it moreso comes across as if she's just tired of the world itself being unable to change, leading into her only being able to change herself and use that to her advantage. So she then goes on to take the world "hostage" so to speak by holding these death games/ traumatizing spectatle. After all, how different would that be to growing up abused by the world? It reminds me of a more complex Toga situation. Lovely video and thank you.

To answer your question about whether I’m for or against mentally ill characters. Those are one of my favorite types of villains because there’s so much you can do with them when it comes to story, character, or shock value but I do admit that it’s very easy to mess up when creating a villain with a mental illness. You mentioned Split and I agree with you about how it misrepresents DID but even though I know that I still enjoy the movie and even the characters of Kevin Wendell Crumb, Dennis, Patricia, and Hedwig. Like you mentioned before, the Joker is villain who has been stated by others and himself to be ‘crazy’ but since his illness has never been confirmed (identified), you can basically do almost whatever you want with him with little to no consequences. He can be the comedian, the criminal, the madman, the monster, or just a sad man trying to give purpose to his life. Years ago, I wouldn’t have thought about all the stuff behind mental illness too much especially in villains because to me as an unknowing child, I just thought that they were cool but as I’ve grown learning more about the world and mental illness, it’s become less cool and more thought provoking and sad. It’s not something to be idolized, mocked, or feared. People with mental illness are not inhuman. They are human beings just like anybody and deserve respect. I feel like it’s okay to give villains mental illness in stories as long as you don’t forget to honor and not disrespect those who DO have it. I know that you did your best to honor them and I think you can rest knowing that you have. I’m not a doctor or professor of anything medical but I can feel it in my heart.

The trick to avoid the "it's all a dream" problem is to make "some of it a dream." The audience has to be sure that some of it was real but unsure how much and which parts. Bonus points if you can tie it thematically, morally, or even plot-wise into the story

On the topic of doffy, he closely resembles ciel phantomhive Ciel is also noble boy (who still lives like one though) and as a kid he was actually a kind hearted, shy kid But after his parents died and he and his brother were kidnapped and sold to a devil worship cult things didn't immediately change for him. It was only after his brother was killed right in front of him as a sacrifice to the devil that he changed and screamed bloody murder at them and ordered a massacre on them with the devil that got summoned. He still cares for some people but he doesn't hesitate to kill those if they get in the way of his revenge. He also doesn't mind becoming the villain in the eyes of those who also suffered a lot because in the end they are just standing in the way of his goal or are people he has to get rid of for the queen anyways. There's a lot more I could say but I think he is also a good representation of the fast development on insanity where one event changed them

This was a nice video that really showed me some of the main points about how Insanity is depicted in many of the characters that I see in the shows I watch. I honestly learned a lot about what makes these characters who they are. The look into the MHA character and the Joker was interesting looks into what makes them who they are. Nice video Axel, I can't wait for the next one~!!!

While this recommendation isn’t from an anime, Sephiroth not only fits the God Complex type of villain (messiah complex really), but honestly all the tropes discussed before and is such a good villain in OG FF7. He’s insane obviously, but he believes he’s essentially destined to carry out his “Mothers” mission as a so-called Ancient. He’s manipulative in how he tricks Cloud throughout the course of FF7, and his actual introduction to the story in OG FF7 is absolutely phenomenal. He’s even a little bit sympathetic, as we see he wasn’t always like he was, but finding out what he was broke him. All these factors just make him a power house of a villain, both metaphorically and literally.

Akito Soma going crazy because of her mother's abuse and the fear of everyone leaving her once the connection to their god has been severed. The true fear of being all alone and forgotten is something I can empathize with although what they did was still very wrong. I feel as if their life would've been very different had her father lived and she had protection against her mother's abuse and obsession with Mr.Soma

I’d like to give a shout-out to one of my favorite portrayals relating to this trope: Cold Fire by Tamora Pierce. The story is split between the perspectives of two characters: a young woman mastering smithing magic, and a serial arsonist who is escalating to intentional murder. Straight-up, these *are* two different characters, there is no “You didn’t even see!” twist coming. The smith’s story is a coming of age story in that she is adjusting to an adult role (having a real job, taking on students of her own, etc.) which even though the character is very young, I do appreciate (it’s not about puberty the way most of these stories are.) It’s good, but it’s the villain who really steals the show, because when we first get into his head, he’s… just a guy. He’s trying to start a volunteer firefighting group after losing everything in a fire, but the local government doesn’t think that’s worth spending resources on. And I think you can already see where this is going. But every step of that path, every time he chooses to escalate, every time he fucks up & has to justify it to himself, you’re right there with him, following his logic. It makes sense, one tiny step down into hell at a time. Just one, no further. Just one more. It’s not that bad, it’s not that much worse. Surely the next step will be all that’s needed. It’s *terrifying.* I read the book all in one sitting over a decade ago, and literally could not sleep that night. I sat there, with all the lights on, staring out the window until I was watching the sunrise, trying & failing to think about *anything* else. It haunts me.

I will say this that quote you said in the beginning of this video. makes perfect sense and there's something I like to add to it sometimes it takes you to be insane to finally see the light enter your life. I had to learn that the hard way it's like facing the devil itself once you pass that hurdle you finally have some peace enjoy. it's crazy to think that some villains just never find that peace.

Honestly if you want a villain with God complexes. I've already gave a recommendation for Housing complex C. I don't know if you consider her a villain I'll let you decide from what I hear it is split of which one to believe. but she is a god from a shrine it's the best recommendation I can give you. for modern anime of 2022. I wasn't going to edit this but I felt like I had to. there's a lot more to the story than just that plus it's probably the shortest anime. you can watch less than a half an hour and have full in depth details for your video.

Junko's personality is basically just every emotion cranked up to 11. When normal people might get bored of a conversation but remain quiet to be polite, junko just blurts out something to make the person shut up, then once she's settled on an emotion/character, she amps it up to the max, in the case here, she'd probably just go punk rock and tell you to shut the frick up. She acts in any way to make life more interesting, but also uses these chaotic character switches to manipulate people once she has a motive. It's a very similar thing people do with a mask in public: you play a bit of a character as a defense mechanism, then once you get to know the person better, you act more yourself. With Junko her personality is just wacko-crazy insane, aka extra af. She just constantly keeps this facade up cause she can, then if opportunity arises she cleverly chooses her words to emotionally manipulate people. As the stand in for the "ultimate despair" and being around sporadic mood swingy people irl myself, I can say that "always negative", "you're always wrong" attitude _really_ drags you down to the point you don't even want to talk or do anything. Junko's personality _is_ despair because that's what she aims to spread, a literal agent of chaos. The wacky crazy person is just her default defense mechanism to not be boring like everyone else when nothing interesting is happening.

The only gripes I really have with MHA depiction of mental health is within two characters Midoriya and Bakugou (Which is a whole mess in them of themselves, but that's what makes their dynamic good) My biggest complaint is within Midoriya. The effects of bullying weren't really explored at all. I mean we had a little arc that was barely executed of Midoriya gaining confidence in himself. He's self sacrificial when he doesn't need to be (and my biggest issue with this is: Although that is condemned by the nurse, it is glorified by All Might and the show (Until it gets a horribly executed arc in the manga, but we don't talk about MHA after the war arc) I'll be blunt. It's a glorification of self harm) He clearly doesn't really value himself all that much, but none of this is properly executed, and the wrong things are glorified And then there's Bakugou. I love the whole parallel he has with Endeavor and his whole inferiority complex/superiority complex is so cool and well executed. Why does this series think it's ok for adults to abandon and humiliate children? There are a couple moments with Bakugou where the symptoms of his mental illness and/or moments where he is a victim of abandonment/abuse is cast for comedy in a humiliating way, and it's kind of infuriating (Like him being unnecessarily angry is funny sometimes. That's not what I'm talking about) And this entire issue is addressed after the whole Bakugou Midoriya fight part 2 but it's never actually dealt with. (Abandonment from adults is pretty much a core part of Bakugou's character but the fact that some moments of it were presented as comedy is the problem. How the show frames things is vastly more important that what happens in the show)
@VidiaReePhoenix
@VidiaReePhoenix Жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you've said about Midoriya is correct. Bakugou though... when was Bakugou ever abandoned by adults? Both of his parents are present and loving, all his teachers besides Aizawa acts like he hung the stars, and pro heroes are willing to die for him to save his life constantly. He's been nothing but coddled by adults his whole life. Which is his problem. If you mean his kidnapping, that is not being abandoned by adults, that was villains kidnapping him and the adults being powerless to stop it. Are you confusing him with someone else?

Great Video. I've got a villain who's obsessed with and enjoys causing pain and murdering people, and the video was pretty helpful. I plan on seeing how his backstory could warp him into this sadistic killer. One example I thought up was Kefka from FFVI. Granted, it was made in the SNES days, so we couldn't delve deep into his backstory, but basically, being experimented on by the empire to get magic abilities made his mind snap like a thread suspending a grand piano. Also, I'm eager to see the God Complex video. I've got me a couple villains like that, and I'm excited to learn more about them.

For the suggestions, I would love to see you talk about Fyodor Dostoevski from bungo stray dogs and just about the entire manga in general. every character is pretty interesting and mysterious. I would recommend reading the manga instead of the anime since, in the latter, the scenes of his character are limited and don't show him at his best plus the manga is pretty short (at least by manga standards, ).the series is very underrated for just how much thought goes into every character.and yes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky the manga and I mean that the characters are based on classical authors and their book's protagonists, so reading the books might give more insight on their philosophy:it is also pretty easy to know which books' protagonist the characters are based on since their abilities are the names of the book. the manga in general is just something that I heavily recommend .

I just want to say that I really appreciate how you talk with such care and admit everything you say may not be perfect. I know it's a low standard, but there's so many people on the internet who talk about subjects as if they've dedicated their lives to studying them, or talk about large groups of people as if they've personally met every single one of them. I find it oddly refreshing to find someone who admits they may lack knowledge in some areas, and I don't think the lack of knowledge should be something to be ashamed of. Nobody can know about absolutely everything, but there's an absurd amount of people on the internet who act as if they do.

I’m someone trying to learn how to write a character going slowly to insanity since I like writing and I find the designs of madness and colors to represent a person to be very interesting (like the bright color red as madness or using shadows to show decent yk). And seeing these anime characters like Father, Johan, and so on, gives me more ideas. I kinda find this to be like a fun writing project while also challenging my art aspect, especially for Toga since she as a whole is a breakdown that you see further entails and is the better insane girl than Yuno (she confuses me more than math does). But I really liked this, gives me more to work on as an artist and someone who wants to make stories for them and all of the fun things :) So thanks for the breakdowns of each chatpracter and field of insanity. Helps out for writers who wants to improve 👍

Hey, loved the video. Your villain videos are some of my favourite KZfaq that I have watched in a while. I just have a suggestion for a god-complex villain that I see looked over quite a lot for any villain videos. It is Izaya Orihara from Durarara. I find him to be one of the most intriguing villains I have ever seen, because his character is strange. He seems to detach himself from his emotions, and not participate in sharing very human traits with those around him. Instead, he is very manipulative, and even sets people against each other. He works as an information broker, and claims to love humans. However, he loves them because he can use and manipulate them however he wants, because he is almost always ahead. He even calls himself a God above everyone else who wants to watch over his humans. Yet, it is stated in the manga that he is not a psychopath or sociopath, but just is afraid of others hurting him (as stated by his friend), which maybe hints at past trauma; it is also stated that he is a very lonely person. On surface level, he seems like an everyday sadist, but there are more layers than even he is willing to admit. Sorry, this kind of turned into an essay. Another obvious villain with a God complex is Light Yagami, but there has been a lot said about him. Gilgamesh from Fate/Stay is a huge narcissist who is actually like 3/4 God. He is the main antagonist in Unlimited Bladeworks, and seems to look down on others because he sees them as unequal to himself. He does not like the position he is in (having to get along with gods and humanity and solve the problems, constantly lonely), and wishes somebody would actually make his time more interesting. Instead, he seems constantly bored and angered by the world around him. But again, he has a few layers to his personality. The thing is that he wants the world to change, because he believes people are living their lives in the wrong way. But he goes about trying to solve this problem very harmfully.

You didn't mention her in this video but I think Miranjo from ranking of kings would have fitted perfectly. Her world view was strongly shaped by trauma, and on top of it she clearly has a skewed understanding of relationships and very intense emotions which, combined with the lack of proper coping mechanisms to ground herself into reality and to empathize with others, leads her into extremely destructive behaviour. An unusual but interesting one for the god complex could be Seijiro Inui from Paprika who (spoiler ahead)... --- who after complaining so much about scientists going against nature and having a god complex, ends up being the one playing god and seeking destruction of the world as we know it.

I've come across your videos before (as they're genuinely interesting as a person who plans to pursue writing as a professional) This video made me subscribe, so I might as well comment my thoughts on some of the characters and the symptoms you offered. MHA - A series I did enjoy, however, I feel the Final Act of the manga has drug it down to the point of having an unsatisfying ending. That said, I still love what came before it. Endeavor - I had never thought of Endeavor as "insane" , at least as the general term. His overall attitude and story is interesting, and offers aninsight to the type of people that can hyperfocus on something, lash out at others, or just bottle things up an unhealthy amount. Toga - A personal favorite character of mine, as her storyline has really demonstrated how society fails a person. Having a part of you disregarded as "unnatural" or "scary" will definitely leave a mark on someone, but having it said to you from a young age such as Toga would most likely leave that lasting impression. Twice - Another personal favorite, Twice is the epitome of a tragic character, but I somewhat relate to him. While he has undoubtedly suffered greater trauma than me (and likely a lot of people watching), having someone not recognize how you feel or react to certain things is something that happens to me with family and close friends, leading to this sense of isolation or alienation. FMA - So sorry, but I had to skip these two characters since I am currently in the middle of a watch of FMA for the first time, and I do not want spoilers Johan - The way you described Johan is truly interesting. An emotionless void that can see how others feel and use that to his advantage, but also views other people as below him? That is a truly terrifying thing to think about. I had with someone in the pastI know some people that struggle connecting with others due to mental illnesses, but Johan is an exaggerated exploration of that. It is truly fascinating to see how he thinks. Future Diary - A series that is... interesting to me. A bit convoluted, but the concept and characters are somewhat interesting to me still Yuno Gasai - While I looked at her as a basic yandere, I did recognize that, to suffer the trauma she went through, it would undoubtedly lead to some kind of mental illness/"insanity". Seeing how you described it, I can definitely see how Yuno has a bit of attachment issues/communication problems, and her obsession with Yuki is something I can sort of relate to, as I did hyperfocus on anyone who gave me the slightest bit of positivity, mainly because of an experience I had in the past. One Piece - A series I recently got into, and I do not regret it once. Doflamingo - While I definitely saw him as "insane", I didn't think of his insane as mental illness. However, after you described it, it makes sense. The upbringing he had, the resentment of his father for it, the "commoners" attack on his family...all of this culminates into the traumatic turn of Doflamingo. I had only ever looked at Doffy as surface level, however, this deep dive has definitely given me a new perspective on him. Danganronpa - I am a relatively new Danganronpa fan, and as much as I hate the series for some of the choices and themes it portrays, it is still a series I can't help but enjoy, and I can look at its flaws and accept them for what they are. Junko Enoshima - From her first reveal, Junko was undeniably a character that had intrigued me. While I do find your "diagnosis"/interpretation of her having BPD, I do feel like it's a bit hard to pin Junko down for mental illness, as you can never tell if she's serious or not. That, in turn, could also be some form of mental illness, but I'm not sure. Junko's philosophy, along with the way she acts, is more what fascinated me with her, as despair is the only thing she cannot predict, and she despises hope. However, she can't help but hope for some kind of despair to bring her an outcome of unexpected output. Anyways, if you read this far, thank you. I'll look forward to your next videos, and have a great day/night

man I wish I saw the last cause I would of suggested Homura from Madoka Magica, the movie that came after the series. Just as a character that suffered multiple times in repeating history, even having to kill her best friend in one timeline, to just finally give into the despair and not even realize it. I don't want to spoil it, but it's interesting to get a perspective of someone's delusion as it unfolds and kind of caves in on itself, leading to almost a deeper delusion and despair. The world the movie is in is absolutely odd, even from the anime, but treated as normal by everyone (for a time), so it's probably a good take on the unreliable narrator trope as well. And with no maniacal laughter.

Well done you for all the research done. It’s always risky and sometimes downright dangerous to express an honest opinion online about anything, never mind a delicate subject like this. I quite agree with your study of the character of Endeavour. Nearly all ‘insane’ or ‘mentally deranged’ characters in MHA, and there are many, leave me feeling disturbed and disgusted. Which is probably the whole point. I cannot ‘like’ or even endure, they’re presence in the series. So I stopped watching the anime and I now skip certain pages of the manga. I won’t let it ruin my fun. Excellent video all around. Great job. 👍

With junko, she wasn't actually supposed to represent illness. The creator said that she was supposed to represent despair, and everything humanity dreads, which she later admitted herself. The big twist is that junko really wasnt human. She was despair incarnate Shes not realistic in the slightest and that is used as almost soft characterization to make you feel creeped out by her. She doesn't have DID, she gets bored of even herself, and thus has to changes herself.she does her switch thing inherently because she knows it's weird.

Reminds me of the depiction of the Sheogorath in the elder scrolls series, where pre-Oblivion game, he looked and sounded the most reasonable of the daedric princes, basically a normal middle-aged dude who was nicely dressed with a calm almost monotone voice that's almost that of a typical office worker, that then requests you to stab to death a giant-fuck-off monster with a fork. then in Oblivion, he was just made into the typical meme-lord "I'm so random" character.

Another character who could've made way into this list is Tokushirou Tsurumi from Golden Kamuy. Although not too much is shown about his actual upbringing but he too had a moment where he lost his wife and daughter and then started to plot revenge but his decline to extreme mental illness only came when he was wounded in a war and had brain injury which caused him to lost his ability to control his emotion thus making him almost lose all empathy (or humanity) even for his own subordinates and completely goes rouge on all villain-traits such as: manipulation, lying, mass murder, brainwashing and even cannibalism. Among all the other well-known villains, I think Tsurumi definitely deserves a spot to be a complex and monstrous villain.
