I love how those instruments evoke a different, more mythical mindscape. Note: if you highlight a track in LogicPro then click the "Plus" button at the left of the "Hide" button in the track header, it will create a new track with duplicate settings (i.e. same instrument, same plugins, etc.) It saves a few steps.

I know I've started my day right when I hear the words "hello everybody" :) Thank you Guy, you are a credit to the music world. Regarding 'ethnic' v 'non-western' I think too much weight is being given to many words these days especially when it disregards intention. I personally try not to tip toe anymore, because who can keep up with the pace of vocab evolution, and moreover, taking offence is not a death sentence, it's a fact of life. We all know we are part of a global human family, and a big welcoming smile and warm hand shake speak volumes in any encounter. The neo woke left have sadly become as loony as the right, but regardless of the word police, your universal positive regard for all cultures is assumed and evident. Great respect and gratitude to you sir, and greetings from Brisbane Australia. Jared

Off topic, watching the live coverage of the Dart mission took me back to my childhood and watching your Dad with James Burke and Patrick Moore in 1969. I thought it would be cool to watch the BBC coverage of the Apollo 11 moon landing again, it's bound to be on KZfaq, isn't it? Apparently not, wiped or lost... a salient reminder, to all of us digital devotees, ' backups are really, really important!'

It is reassuring to know a seasoned DAW user can still be flexible enough to switch DAWs sometimes and it is further reassuring to see that someone seasoned can falter just like a noob (such as myself) . I feel less stupid when I see that the task of switching to or adapting to a different environment naturally comes with a bunch of halts a trips. Thanks as always for the inspiring chunks of composition.

I have quite a few projects that are comprised of nothing more than mucking about, as you call it. ideas, musical seeds that didn't become completed songs, and others just exercises in editing and composing that might lead to new music seeds which may fully flourish. Sometimes you throw stuff at a wall and see what sticks for the sake of finding a new project to complete, other times you throw stuff at the wall for the fun of it. Either way, keeps a musical brain sharp

Have you ever worked in a DAW called Mixcraft? I have come to enjoy a VST which is included with Mixcraft 9 Pro Studio called Glass Viper. Its a synth that lets you manipulate the wave form directly and layer up to 4 customized sound forms. It enables very otherworldly and unique sounds and is fun to mess around with to create new custom presets.

Logic is bullet proof once you get it down. Oversampling on EQs is totally underrated and I think the 64 bit summing math sounds better than what’s used in other DAWs.

@@Stormgnome It's just fun cause there is many big companies that brings out their lawyers just if your name is very close to theirs some years ago we had a little guy that sold sausages here in denmark. He had some burger or sausage whatever it was and his name was very close to Mc Donald's think it was spelles Mac Donnald and he got sued and had to change his one man Business to change his name.. We also have a Metal Band that used to call them self "Disneyland After Dark" and after they got known in USA Disney didn't like that at all, so they changed it to D.A.D 😆

On the topic of calling things "ethnic" instruments, I've started saying "Traditional." This allows the inclusion of Western traditional instruments in the same category, since calling a Celtic Harp a "non-western instrument" is a bit of a misnomer

Just an fyi... command R in logic is nowhere near sample accurate with audio. Nore is the loop. They drift by smaller margins than logic is happy give a numeric value? Ridiculous imho. Piece of poop for bug fixing but it's been 20+ years now and I still miss E-magic 4.7 ironically! ;( p.s. great to see you in logic world (even tho I'm frozen on 10.4.7 for now, hence the irony). I am trying to use Reaper to mix but I can use Logic in my sleep with my toes so it's a tricky trade off still. p.p.s. Haven't used cubase since my 333mhz pc with a 4gig internal hd. How quickly we forget...
