Hello! Alex is probably very busy so I figured I would help answer your question! So before I get started, I am going to warn you that this can get expensive! What you are looking for to start with is Kontakt 5. FL Studio is a DAW, but it is not a Host for Sample Libraries like Alex listed. Basically you use Kontakt 5 within FL Studio to hold and use your instruments. You can find it here (As well as Damage) within Komplete 11: www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-11-ultimate/ Komplete 11 Ultimate also comes with basic Symphonic Sample libraries that could save you some money. Finally, Metropolis Ark can be found here: orchestraltools.com/libraries/metropolis_ark_1.php Its a lot to get started on, so let me know if you have any questions.

I think it's worth noticing these packages are aimed at big score production. If you just want to create orchestral pieces, less "epic", then there is a variety of packages that give you similar results. Take a look at Varazdin Orchestral suite on the FL plugins page, for a fraction on the price.

Lesson Summary: * French horns are an instrument to write basic and clear melodic lines. It is the best instrument to write melody within the brass section. But it is not enough since the freq. spectrum isn’t full yet. * Bass trombone and cimbassi are brass instruments that broaden the spectrum and fill the low register. But bass trombones are cluttered so this is why we can’t write melodies with It. * Bass trombones are great to write root notes because they are cluttered in such a way that the French horns aren’t. * Double bass can help the brass section fill the low-mid register. Some times it is needed to be in low volume. * Beginners tend to forget that brass is played by humans and they need to catch a breath. Small pauses are needed inside the piano roll. * After every pause, the next note will sound huge thanks to the absence of the sound. * MOD - Usually determines how hard the player blows. EXP - Allows to fade the volume over time to make it sound realistic. * In high registers, the articulations should be versatile to add movement, contrary to the low registers. Single notes are the best choice as root notes.

Don’t be afraid of trumpets and cornets. Clarinets can double as trumpet melodic orchestration as it was designed to be a wooden trumpet in the clarion register in the baroque period. Flugelhorns are good for alto lines needing more smoothness and less power than French horns.

Short summary (because I know I will come back to this video): -Layer your sounds. (f.e. root note of chords for a bassey brass, mind the sounds' frequency range/type to find a suiting melody or it will sound cluttered) -Small pauses (for breathing and making contrast to the next note) -Vary the "blowing" of the player (through volume and expression; change volume for accents, lower expression as the note goes on for imitating less air coming through)

Honestly, in my experience as a musician who uses FL Studio, I have found that it is better to follow what you want to hear and feel. Studying some of your favorite classical artists as well as modern ones can lead to great inspiration when you are creating music. I personally enjoy video game orchestral music from artists like Nobuo Uematsu, Yoko Shimomura, Kow Otani, Trevor Morris, and many others. You should find your inspiration, drive your path with it beside you, and then you'll come up with really great music.

I would very much like to see a detailed video on how to allow some space for other instruments not to clash with each other in EQ. I find it weird that almost all the percussion I try to play, always sound good at high frequencies. So do I boost all of them at that same level? They would collide, right? I'm trying to come up with drum pattern like Junkie XL.

I love how your step sequencer is set up with the whole orchestra instrument sections layed out. How did you achieve this, as far not just adding samplers and changing names but do you already have plugins loaded in those areas or is it blank and you just add the plugins as you go. If so, either way, how are you able to run soooo many instruments at one time with no latency or cpu usage clipping? Are you like running an instance of kontakt or philharmonik or something and just have each midi output channel from each sound within kontakt attached to a step sequencer tab?

I am a horn (french horn) player and I can confirm that I am human and I blow into the horn and must breath... joking aside, you can orchestrate separate horn parts to spell (fill in for) each other so breathing can be removed as an impediment. So horns 1 and 3 starts and doesn't play one of the other notes while 2 and 4 play that missing note. Alternatively, professional orchestras have assistant horns that help fill in and spell other horns for breathing.

Hey there. Really nice tutorial! :) I have one question: What would you take as your favourite orchestral plugin/library and cinematic pack. I have just recently started to do some cinematic music, but I don't want to spend too much money, since it won't be my main style of music. I'd like to get a little more into it though and experiment from time to time, so I gathered myself some free packs and instruments, but it's not 100% what you would want (unlike this gorgeous french horn for instance). I mean it's really good for free products, but it can obviously not compare to professional stuff. That's why I wanted to know if you think that there is a go-to plugin/library for orchestra and a go-to sample pack for cinematic hits/percussion/fx etc. and what that would be. Greetings from Austria and cheers to you.

Umbrohs you can torrent libraries to try them and see which ones you like, then when you have enough money you can buy them. For instance you can get Octohorn from auddict. Its an amazing french horns library, it costs 90£. Albione one is a complete library, it has everything you need but its $500

aad kliklaminaat it does, but for orchestration, is probably better to spread those chordal parts to other instruments like French horn if you were to do chords. That way both instruments contribute to the sound and color, thus will likely sound better.

Thank you. Just got two of them too. If I may bother you with another question. What's more critical during playback? Is it the RAM or the SSD? I get that SSD determine the speed of loading the patches.. not sure what determines the performance of the playback.
@AlexMoukala
@AlexMoukala 7 жыл бұрын
It depends. If you're using DFD (Direct from Disk) patches, then SSD determines the performance other than the speed. Otherwise, it'll be determined by the RAM. On top of all that, the CPU also plays a big part into the performance of the playback.

6:46 I thought you were going to say Contrabassoon. Don't you think it would work best with the Brass section, or are you aiming at a bigger section that consists of several players instead of a one player playing the Contrabassoon? Or even better... Most of the Orchestral sheet music I read have the Bass Trombone playing a note and the Tube playing the same note one octave below it. Have you considered that?

Do you always leave the fruity limiter on the master? Or do you change it the way you think is needed?

I just leave it for "security" to prevent the audio signal to ever go beyond 0dB.

Do you have a book or resource where you learned about all this?

I didn't learn from a single source, back when I started there wasn't one single course that could teach all of this, so I learned a bit from everywhere and by composing for a crapload of hours. But if I were to get started nowadays, I'd definitely check out Evenant's Cinematic Course as that's the most complete and modern blueprint for orchestral music right now. -> courses.evenant.com/p/cinematic-music-from-idea-to-finished-recording/?affcode=22931_u2flmxmo
