How to write romanization of Russian | Handwriting

As a Russian, I just have to correct some things. Е should be "ye" because that's how it's pronounced without a consonant in front of it. If there is a consonant in front of it, "y" becomes silent, but the vowel still sounds the same. It kinda works like in Japanese with smaller versions of vowels. For example, Russian "Не" would sound the same as "ニェ" in Japanese, but romanized it's still would be "ne", even though it really should be "nye". Ё should be "yo", once again it works exactly the same as in Japanese with small vowels. Russians also like to just not use Ё and use Е instead, like to write "елка" instead of "ёлка" (still pronounced as "yolka" though), in modern Russian it's considered to be a grammatical mistake, but you still see it a lot. Й in Russian is called "И краткая", which literally means "short i", so technically romanizing it as "i" isn't necessarily wrong, but it may be confusing sometimes, like in the word "Йогурт", which is literally pronounced the same as "yogurt", "iogurt" wouldn't make any sense. More common way of romanizing it is by using "y", but it can also be confusing, because in this case it shares the same letter with Ы, which leads to such things as "krasivyy" (those two "y" at the end are different sounds). The most right way to romanize it would be by using "j", as it depicts the exact same sound as Russian Й in slavic languages that use latin alphabet, but it would be confusing to people who are not exactly familiar with slavic languages and would pronounce it as regular English "jey". Romanizing Х as "kh" is actually right, I just don't like it. Russian Х is just a more vibrant "h", like in Japanese or in Spanish. Not "kh". Ц is not "tc", but "ts". It's actually the same as in Japanese "tsu" (yeah, Japanese and Russian actually have a lot in common sound-wise, for a native Russian pronouncing Japanese is just like talking regularly, lol) About Ш and Щ, they both basically should be "sh", it's just that Щ is a lot "softer" than Ш, which is supposed to be depicted in this romanization by adding "ch" to "sh", it's not actually pronounced as "shch". The best example I can make is that Щ is pronounced like "sh" in "shine", and Ш is pronounced like "sh" in "show". Ъ and Ь (the hard sign and the soft sign) both act as an apostrophe, making a pause between a consonant and a vowel in a word. The difference between them is that Ь also makes the consonant, which it stands after, "soft". The concept of "soft consonants" in Russian is a bit hard to explain, basically imagine pronouncing any consonant with an "i" after it, and then removing the "i", but remaining it's influence on the consonant. Yeah, I can't explain it better than that. In regular Russian romanization Ь is " ' " and Ъ is " " ". Ю and Я should really be romanized as "yu" and "ya", they literally sound like that. Hope you enjoyed today's Russian lesson! See ya!

I want to add: If any Russian want to say any word with perfect "E" Comes first (Like first "E" In "estimate" In English"), they used letter "Э" To distinguish with the pronounciation of Cyrillic "E".

Not exactly, in fact this isn’t the best way to transcribe Russian as it doesn’t really fix the inconsistency of the pronounciation of letters. For example, "Ё" is transcribed as "e" here but it is pronounced "yo" ; "Й" is transcribed as "i" but is used like "j" in Serbian (note: "j"is prounounced the same as the "y" in romanization of japanese kana や、ゆ、よ)

well, not exactly the same: the romanization is an approximation to the spoken english sounds that are most similar to the russian ones. But if you just stick to the exact english approximation, you'll sound weird, and, perhaps, even wrong.

Й = j , sometimes "y" , not "i" So, Ю = ju (yu), Я = ja (ya), Ё = jo (yo) "Й" is not a vowel, it's consonant sound. Ц = ts , not "tc" In Romanian Ю = iu, Я = ia, but not in Russian.
