For anyone watching this video thinking if this is good... YES it is! I thought it was expensive but decided to give it a try and it works great. Tips: clean airbrush right away after using it, otherwise it's going to be a nightmare to clean once it dries out. I sprayed 2 very thin coats, followed by 1 medium coat and I let it cure for a day (I did that to avoid any issues with paint or body issues since it's automotive and it will ruin the model if not letting it flash between coats properly or if sprayed too thick at the start) I then sanded down the model to remove some small imperfections and to also make sure my last 2 wet/heavier coats would go down perfect with a mirror finish (no orange peel effect) and it worked flawlessly. I used mr hobby surfacer 1200 for my base coat, then tamiya acrylic paint, then this 2k coat and it's absolutely flawless. One thing to note: I tried an Aoshima kit with zero paints colored paint and it melted the surface of the kit, now it's trash, though I suspect it was my own fault as I laid down a thicker than needed first layer so I think it just messed it up. Otherwise just stick to light coats to start, if it's paints (zero paints) let it flash for 20-30 minutes each time, every layer should be light until the desired color depth is achieved. For the clear coat do as I mentioned above and you won't have a problem.

Zero Paints are incredible for hobbyists, super expensive for some odd reason but great quality paint. I use Tamiya and Valejo only because Zero is hard to get in the U.S and when available is almost 2x's the price. That said I order and keep handy ZP 2k diamond kit for all my clear coating needs when doing competition builds or a real special build. Thanks for the videos!

is it possible to spray this at home? I m reading the safety sheet for isocianates in Zero Paints web site and i'm quite scared. I have a 3M 7502 mask, with 6001 filters and anti particles white filters (don't know if p1, p2 or p3) and i have a Fengda portable spray booth wich is not powerful. I also use latex gloves. But they say that the colors are dangerous even while curing, i can not put the model kit outside while curing...

Not used Zero Paints 2k yet but have used gravity spains one, you should be okay for 15-20 minutes with the AB cup nearly empty, remember these are basically automotive paints so you can use Acetone or cellulose thinners to clean your AB i keep both in my arsenal for cleaning as its cheap and effective and available from automotive store or in bulk from car paint specialists

Great video. May I ask, I tried to clear a model I have using an airbrush that I have only used in the past painting up statues. I used two different makes of gloss clear coat but I seem to only get a very matt effect. Is this because I sprayed from far away only a very light coat? Do I need to do it close like you do in the video? And If I keep going over the matt looking coat I have done already, closely like you. Will it eventually go glossy? I used Tamiya clear gloss. Thank you for your help :)

@stephennoble2647
@stephennoble2647 5 жыл бұрын
You need to add more thinner to the mix. The amount of thinner Zero say to use is not enough. Also as stated above, you must apply a wet coat, that's wet, not heavy. You need to apply it wet enough but not so wet that you get runs or sags. It's that magic moment just before it starts to run, but doesn't actually run. If you can master the technique you will have an almost glass smooth finish..
