------
The word visionary gets thrown around a lot these days. Sometimes, all it takes is for someone to make a vague modification to an existing flow or sound and suddenly, talk turns to their influence. In others, all it takes is for you to take the lead in what everyone else is doing and, you guessed it, think pieces on their creative genius will arise.
But for Tyler, The Creator, the road to recognition, never mind widespread praise, has been a long one. Initially seen as a troll taking shock tactics and applying them to his music, Tyler and Odd Future Wolf Gang were initially all happy to lean into this image.

I mean... I remember when Tyler first came out no one took him seriously. Errybody just thought that 2011-2013 era was it... Honestly thats one of my favorite era of oddfuture/Tyler. But he came back with flowerboy and igore changed his whole sound/ style and started going mainstream. Now hes mainstream. Im happy for him. 13 years of makeing music n hes finnally getting his recognition that he deserves. N hes only 30 years old.. Michael Jackson was 30 when he dropped BAD n 1987.. Think about THAT! This man performs a hell of a show. Been following him since 2011. I remember actually Internet arguing over him because so many of our own(👋🏿) wouldn’t give him a chance. 😂😂 I just loved that he spoke what he was feeling. How he’d troll people in interviews. He was/is so interesting and talented. I’m proud of his success. Tyler’s strategy is undeniable and at the end of the day he is still very lyrical. He spoke for a lot of us who grew up as American black kids in the late 90s -2000s that weren’t always quite understood by any community. I’ll always appreciate that.

While I knew who Tyler was for a long time, being a fan, even for me, he’s transformed a lot. As an artist, most importantly. He was dismissed as the menace of hiphop due to his ‘to-piss-people-off’ music, then elevating to higher grounds and creating a cohesive album that is Igor, landing him a well deserved Grammy. Every Tyler album is different from the rest and not in a way that is exaggerated or faked. They all feel natural in their own exaggerated ways. These are the signs of a true creator.

I found OF in 2011 after seeing Yonkers on MTV when those awards were on, it's crazy to think that if i never discovered that video that night i would not have the same music taste i have today, i instantly became a stan and listened to every single members discography, even the ones who never became massively famous like Casey Veggies and Jet Age of tomorrow, even though Matt Martians and Syd eventually formed a group with Thundercat. But i've discovered all the music i like by going through all the members twitter pages and looking at the music they used to listen to in their spare time. RIP OF but we all have to grow up but that group saved my life
