I was thinking of what NES game was my favourite just the other day, and I think it's that one.

That Tyson, pre prison, would give any heavyweight a problem. The speed, power and angles he had were, like you said , nothing we have ever seen before or after. People don’t give Mike enough credit for his boxing skills. Tyson was an extremely technical fighter and a boxing historian. He lived this sport. I will always say that a prime Mike Tyson was one of the greatest heavyweight boxers in history.

But he was undefeated, beat Larry Holmes twice and was a solid champion. It’s not that Mike beat him but rather the way he did. 91 seconds to blast out a guy that had never lost…you can’t take that away from him. Also knocking out Larry Holmes was something too. Larry never got Ko’ed before or after and he had a pretty solid “second” career.

Meanwhile he lost to Holyfield twice, demolished by Lennox Lewis, and never fought Riddick Bowe. But I'm supposed to put him in the same conversation as the Heavyweight legends of the 70's like Ali and Foreman. Right.

@@corngreaterthanwheat I haven't seen Mike in person, but I've seen him in videos with Henry Cejudo (during Cejudo's chunky "retirement" phase), and I'm like "damn, he's just barely taller than Cejudo." I feel like he's gotten shorter with age, like he's gone from 5'10" to 5'8". Or maybe it was just the camera angle.

He had zero chance of gaining the title of greatest heavyweight of all time. To start, the era Tyson fought in was a downtime in the heavyweight division. From when he knocked out Trevor Berbick until he lost to Buster Douglas, name me one notable heavyweight of that era. Then, when big name heavyweights were around, he either never fought them (Riddick Bowe) or lost to them (Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis). This nonsensical notion of Mike being so dominant, when his resume is so subpar, is truly a wonder of seeing him on video knocking out tomato cans and everyone thinking this is how it went for every one of his fights. Most fighters dominate their early opponents, it's not shocking he knocked out a bunch inside the first few rounds, most top end fighters did the same. Also to pretend Tyson's technique didn't start to degrade almost immediately upon D'Amato's passing is ridiculous, Tyson has even admitted it himself. When Cus died, he had no one to be perfect for, and his footwork and head movement degrade with each fight after. Rooney and the rest of D'Amato's team were smart to keep him constantly fighting to keep him focused, but Ultimately once the success kicked in it was a losing game. Even fights Tyson is winning in the mid stages of his career he is doing through sheer power, not the techniques that he had honed under D'Amato. But to pretend Tyson had any chance dethroning the actual GOAT in Muhammad Ali is a level of retarded I can't even fathom. Ali ducked no one, fought multiple hall of famers (George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Archie Moore, Ken Norton) and either beat them in their only match, or on the few occasions he did lose, would win the rematch and then the rubber match. That's why Ali is the greatest of all time.

Yes, Ali was the greatest of all time, when he lost to Frazier and Norton, he not only won the rematch, he won the rubber match. He ducked no one, also lost three years of his prime just like Tyson (though certainly not for the same reason) and fought a significantly tougher era. The better question is why you're so desperate to prop up a guy who spent 90% of his career first round KO'ing tomato cans.
