I had more interesting titles in mind, but let's stay positive. The data hub needs to improve. Presently, its a repository for loads of information, but they aren't interconnected, they serve to help after the fact. With few changes the data hub can turn into one of the best tools for players old and new to the game.
Simplifying it and improving its integration to scouting and opposition reports will go a long way in increasing its utility. On this show I am joined by twitch.tv/Culturedleftfoot who is a data geek too. We break down the hub and explain why we hardly use it and how it can be improved further. What are your thoughts? How useful do you want it? We want to hear from you.
You can find Dave streaming at twitch.tv/culturedleftfoot

The most important problem for me with all the data in FM is the season turns over to next year and the game forgets absolutely everything. Right in the middle of the transfer window you can no longer see what anyone did last season. Let alone attempting to track whether a player is showing improvement in his game over multiple seasons.

Another issue with the data hub is thst it doesn't differentiate between competitions. I've you're playing with a lower ranked team you could be dominating your league but be an underdog in the Champions League so you might have to play differently

Great video and I couldn't agree more. I work as a data analyst and if I presented the results of my analysis in the manner that it is done in the data hub then I doubt I would be a data analyst much longer. No manager, whatever the profession, expects to have to trawl through data in the hope of finding what they want to know when they employ people to do that for them. I should be able to go to my analysts, ask them for a report on something - such as my teams passing - and get a report covering all of the relevant data with the key findings. And then, if for example they find that one player is attempting a lot of risky passes but they are largely unsuccessful, I should be able to request a report to see why his passes aren't successful. Is the issue down to poor movement of his team mates? Is he just not good enough to execute the passes? Is he picking the wrong options? This is what I should be getting from the data hub and not a bunch of unconnected graphs and charts that are a chore to work through. If someone like myself that works in analytics finds the data hub a tedious to use then I hate to think what it's like for everyone else.

The old Prozone (I think that was what it was called) that was in FM15/16 was so much better than the current data hub. It had a lot more indepth data which you could compare game by game. Hope they embrace the data revolution in Football in FM25 with a complete overhaul

The whole point of analysts at the club should be to interprate data and provide you with a tactical breakdown. They just don't do this in fm.

This is my biggest problem with the game. The data is there. The data analysts are there. But it’s never presented in a way that it would be done in real life. It needs an overhaul for FM25.

I find the data hub is more of a cosmetic feature rather than a practical one.
@Draddar

For starters I have to admit I rarely open the hub, but I did find some of the aggregated data for specific players occasionally useful. For example a defender winning way less headers than anyone else on the team, or finding a striker that for some reason has much lower shot on target % than others. The graphs can identify such players in an easy to see way. It is not the only way to find such players and you always have to ask yourself is it actually useful. But some of the data is hard to put together only from watching games, especially once parts of the season are more on autopilot. I've managed to identify some players who weren't getting enough playing time compared to their actual performance on the pitch and turned around a few seasons this way. Like I said I don't really use the feature a lot. But maybe a couple of times during the season going through the metrics of who is over- or underperforming isn't a terrible idea, especially when struggling and you are looking at what to change to save the season. Whether that is through the hub or plain numbers in the squad view or some outside tool like DrJit is up to individual preference.

I appreciate the honest critique, I think SI are stuck in a cycle to some degree. They look to deliver new features, don't implement them at their optimum and then simply move on to the next thing. So many elements of the game are like this currently, frustratingly incomplete, not at their optimum or in some cases just long term broken. They aren't adding value, they are diminishing it. I genuinely hope to see FM25 as a gateway to new era, a different approach and a chance to start over. It must not look like its just carried over historical shortcomings and flaws on its eventual release.

A lot of what you said is most likely due to the fact that the game is pretty old at this point and they added feature upon feature over the years. FM25 is badly needed, because that means they have to think about the features they're gonna integrate. They can build from the ground up rather than building on top of old code.

In the player search, when setting up a filter, you can click the ‘exclude’ button and remove the tick where it excludes your own players. Then filter by your team name and it’ll show all your own players.

Honestly, I don’t trust the Data Hub much. I think of it as a visual accessory that mimics real football. Rather, I trust the analysis tab during or after the game more and think about the direction of improvement of my tactics through this. Many Korean players analyze the problems of the tactics they use by referring to the Data Hub, especially Expected Goals, Expected Conceded Goals, and Pass Map. I used to do that too, but not anymore. In FM, Expected Goals doesn’t seem to mean much. For example, if you use an aggressive mentality and assign aggressive roles and duties, Expected Goals can be as high as you want. But what’s more important in FM’s engine is the Perfect Scoring, or Decisive Scoring Opportunity figures. If this is not high, no matter how high the Expected Goals are, it means that there is a problem with the offensive tactics in reality. Of course, under the premise that the squad is being managed appropriately. I think the same goes for the Pass Map. Roles like Inverted Fullbacks or Inverted Wingbacks play in the middle of the pitch when you look at the highlight scenes, the average position, or heat map on the analysis tab, but they don’t look much different from the usual fullback roles on the Pass Map. So, is it correct to understand the average position of the players by looking at the Pass Map of the Data Hub? I don’t think so. Of course, it’s not that the Data Hub is completely useless. But rather than spending a lot of time looking at this, I think it’s much more efficient to use the analysis tab.

The data hub is not useless, I’m a tactics nerd so I can’t bash it, it could be much better that’s true, like the moving averages and last 5 matches data. I mainly use the oppositions scouting report and I look at all the data of the opposition and it tells me how they play. I can basically recreate the opposition tactics from the information given and for me that’s its main use. For Analysing your team it’s a bit useful too when comparing players that play in the same position. It could be better but it’s far from being completely useless.

The data hub doesnt even compare the right players against each other. If you decide to use a player in a different position, the game will stil pull data from his original role. I never use it. But it isnt the only useless screen in the game. FM is packed with screens and options you never use. It's a game build a long time ago and they never spend time cleaning/removing useless stuff. Instead they have introduced new features, new graphics ect. Looking back and thinkin of how much money i have spend the last 15-20 years on this game i think its fair to say i'm disappointet. It almost feels like EA and the development of FIFA.

so if the data hub is useless and the club has 5 performance/data analysts should they just be fired I guess saving the club a lot of money, esp lower league teams seems like a good saving.

I understand that this video is part of the worldwide trend of criticising the Data Hub in FM (I like it also and have been shouting for a long time about: the time slots, the division of data into different competitions, opponents, home and away matches and the tactics and formations used as a crucial), but from the authors I expected not only more substance, but above all an understanding of what the Data Hub is. Since the gentlemen do not understand, I must explain. Well, the Data Hub in FM is just a graphical visualisation of selected analytical data. A way of presenting numbers. Nothing more. In the meantime, I would like to explain that this type of data (in the form of visualisations as in the Data Hub, or in the form of tables or charts) is only used to identify problems, and therefore to know WHAT QUESTION to ask. And this is what the DATA HUB in FM is for. Of course, it is lame, imperfect, limited, but even if it weren't, it will still serve this and only this purpose. After that, I would still recommend looking at the league statistics (team and individual) to complete the picture, then looking at a selection of your own team's individual statistics (depending on WHAT QUESTION you are asking), and you will only find the ANSWER in the match picture, and that is where you should ALWAYS look for it. So you have to go into the individual matches and analyse the individual parts of the match together with the data, but above all the IMAGE of the game. There you will find the answers. In real football it is exactly the same and even POCHETTINO does not get any answers from its analysts from the numbers alone, but the numbers are only the beginning of the analysis process and its interpretation is always brought by the analysis of the match. This is why dynamic video analysis is so crucial. Next time I suggest you prepare better for the programme. I apologise for my English. Regards
@DavidB010385

I think you've missed the point of the video. They aren't asking for all of the answers to be given to them from the analytics, they are asking for the data to be presented in a concise manner that we can use to reach the answers and not the mess of unconnected graphs that we have to manually work through at the moment. If Pochettino wants to understand why his players XG is higher than their actual goals scored he will ask the data analysts to provide the relevant information. He won't go through graph after graph trying to find this himself when he employs people to do this for him. The data hub should be where we go to see reports that are analysts have prepared on subjects we have asked them to. It's current form where we have to find all of the data manually is tedious.

I think you missed the point of the video. We both have experience working with data and our issue isn’t the numbers but the presentation of said data. 1. Data is largely averages and averages are not helpful unless they can be collated in ranges, that allows us to evaluate trends. Simple enough to do but not done. 2. You make broad references without pointing and talking about anything specific, I could say your criticism was done without any preparation either. 3. There is good data in the data hub, but for specific use cases like next match info, one needs to go to at least two other locations to get more data when this can be better presented. 4. xG Buildup or xGChain cannot be done in the game unless you go to each game and then isolate and extract the data. 5. And I haven’t even go down to inconsistency of data in various pages as well. Maybe you it’s your lack of understanding of the English language, our contention is that, while certain features can be useful it can be improved further. And that is the final point, improving the data hub so that it becomes easier and friendly to use for the average user.

@@BusttheNet So well, let's blame it on my English and forget about how you say that the Data Hub is the most useless tool in FM and that it doesn't give any answers, and let's focus on explaining to people that the data in the Data Hub only allows us to ask the right questions and where they can find the answers to those questions. Because they can, right? Let's explain how to read the numbers, for example what a fantastic tool zonal maps are and how to use them. Can DataHub get any better? It should! Can Data Hub mislead us? It can. Can you improve your team's game with Data Hub? You can. Can you guess your rival's style of play and their strengths thanks to the Data Hub? You can. And that is the whole picture, not the one resulting from your video. Best regards
