You got a weird phase thing going on. Were you milking the amp live and using the OX direct on the same track? I have a couple OX's but I don't track live and use the modeling too unless I adjust the phase alignment.

I’m not crazy for hearing the Ox sound out of phase? I know the ox doesn’t actually sound like that, so probably an export setting or something.

There's something kind of phasey or scooped and indirect about the tone. I've heard plenty of tracks recorded with an Ox and they sound convincing so is it possible you have something in your recording mis-configured? Maybe collapsing a stereo tone into mono or semi mono? Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to hate on you or video, or the Ox. It's clear you put a huge effort into them and I enjoy your content. I record a lot of mic'd guitar cabs with Royers, Beyers, 421s, 414s, 409s, 57s, and AEA mics - lots of standard stuff. Usually dual mic setups on vintage tube amps and speakers. I have most of the old stuff that gets modeled. These are sounds I know pretty well. I'm in my studio listening on my monitors that I also know well. I generally always point my mics directly at the cone and not at an angle. Anywhere from the dust cover to the edge, perpendicular to the grill cloth. For the sake of reproducing sounds, I try to avoid angles because it's harder to recreate (I can see in the Ox interface there's an angled 421). I've also felt that an angled mic sounds a little weird to me but I can also accept that it might be informed by personal bias. I get that a sound wave coming off a speaker cone a pretty wild event from a fluid dynamics perspective and my opinions might be totally off with regard to how a microphone interacts with a speaker. Sorry for the wall of text. You made a lot of great content this year.

I have had mine for a few years and I absolutely love it. Especially after the update with the Mesa style cab. Amazing for high gain. If it broke, I’d buy another today. For someone who has a home studio, I think it is essential.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. If you play in tune and in rhythm you can make great music with simple playing. And you can throw away anything you don’t like. Thanks for posting.

I have a mesa boogie tube head going into the ox box. It is sooo great! The years of me having a half stack blaring by me are over. I would only do something different if I had a separate iso room just for cabs with mics.

I find the magic happens when you take advantage of the stereo capability. Try two line in channels into your interface and play around more with stereo placement. I also use a looper to run a guitar loop and then tweak the settings while the looper is playing the pattern. You instantly hear the difference without having to stop playing and turn knobs and then start again...

There's something wrong with your setup, the OX should not sound like that (I have one) - not sure what you've done but sounds like significant phase issues!

I use the two notes captor x. It’s so good and a lot cheaper. It has some killer features. I actually don’t ever mic up a speaker. I’m thinking of selling the 4x12. Ps. Grab a Marshall silver jubilee. Either the big version or studio version and you will have great amp for your studio

Ya Im a nerd too, I bought this Ox thing, and I love the quality and functionality about it, but I have yet to learn how to tie it all through my Daw and use it for a live rig at home, or even to record. One thing I tried a few days ago, was to use the line outs to drive 2 separate amps, kinda like a wet dry wet, however Im not sure this is a correct way to do this, but it works!

I have mine as in insert into my Kahayan amp switcher with 8 amps combos/heads driving real cabs (Marshall 4x12, Mesa 1x12). One button and I can grab a whole new amp/rig for layering. Still mic my cabs as well so I have the flexiblity in mix to choose re-amp (Palmer DI), stereo OxBox or my miked cabs. 200% overkill.

Ox box is fab and ya of course you can mic up your cab and in fact can do so running amp super hot with low level in room , But most of the heavies say simply they get as good or better result direct using mics and cabs in the box … and ya it does change sound for me for the better as I can really run my head far hotter than I could normally in my home studio

Hey man whats the best "way" to Record the output? I'm using an 73 Hill Audio Analouge mixer and I usually just go in direct, Can I use the Speaker outs from the OX to plug into my desk? Or Via the Real Mic I have in front of my Amp? Or is it best to set up Spdif/Optical Ins and just Send that to my Guitar Channels? You know what I think I'll try both now that i am thinking out loud...

For studio setups it'd be nice to have line level input on the ox

It’s a cool tool. We’re definitely still in the Uncanny Valley when it’s comes to amp and speaker modelling though.

The Ox Box is great. But you have to unhook it from your amp if you're going to record from a mic because the attenuator that's built-in will darken your tone a TON (as in it can turn a bright Marshall dark).

Have you checked the audio? somethings not right... your room mic in parallel with the OX through the monitors? It´s super phasey and def. doesn´t sound like the OX.

It says in the manual that you have to use both of the line outs… it specifically says that the line outputs do not sum if you only connect one. I think this is the issue ppl are hearing. I know this is an old video but I’m wondering if you found the issue

I only use the OX as load box to tame levels for my iso cab. For recordings I only use the room Mic emulation. This gives me a nice space, which i don't have using the iso cab alone. Comparing the OX emulations with a real speaker into a good mic Preamp reveals how good the "real deal" sounds. Another good application which works vor me is using the OX for In ear monitor sounds together with real amps in rehearsal situations.

I dumped by OX, I think it must be good for Fender style amps. I have a high gain Marshall and the Suhr reactive load is right for me.

You did a drum rec. video that you got killer drum sounds in, so I listen to you cuz you know what great sounds are. I got an m160, the only mic a guitar amp needs, but it's just too damn loud! Lol. You make me want to get the ox. Looking at the iron man, but the ox looks like one-stop shopping. Stick it into the 1073, and that's it, right? Im so tired of messin w guitar sounds w headphones on. Sorry, It doesn't convince me. And I'm still somewhat confused about what this thing does. I might have missed it in the video, are you using an amp and this is a cab and mic sim, or is it a flat-out amp sim. Either way, I still don't think it compares to the real thing (from what I can hear in the headphones on this video). Your examples sounded out of phase too. I will say I am very much a fan of micing real amps so maybe I am biased.

Hi, I'm interested in the ox box, all the demos are very convincing and everything looks great. I have a question if after the installation everything works well or if there are problems that the computer needs to be fixed again for it to work. This is the only thing that worries me because my big problem is that after they come to install the ox for me, problems will start that I have to deal with. Because I'm really not good at working with a computer, I'm pretty analog. Thank you

I'm a UA guy. have been for around 4 years (Aplo 8) & this is the first soundclip/demo I've heard from the OxBox. While it's a nice-looking unit, with some nice features, I think it sounds pretty honky/stuffy ...to my ears, anyway.. But.. Also only the second video I've watched on this channel, am I missing something? I'd kinda feel bad proclaiming a negative if that's the case. Hmm..

If only the room mics had a separate line out...
