People suddenly changing attitudes is shady and wack. I couldn't ever get too involved with that hectic schedule and phony people. FGC was always about being a small, passionate community. The corporate stuff is gonna cause an implosion eventually.

I can only speak from a perspective of only dominating my locals. the anxiety and need to succeed because you need that pay is crazy as well. I went to my first big tournament this year at texas showdown and i was struggling to speak after matches.

Honestly, it's always been about networking and who you know. Still is. Not just in Tekken, not just in the FGC. In any industry. I work a corporate job and it's the same deal. Getting a good gig is mostly political. More about having connections with the right people than being good at what you do.

When there's money, then there's systematic/human corruption, and when the price is big, the grind goes big also. I never made it to the level that you did, but I had a similar experience. I had become the best in my area, and so I went into struggle mode trying to get to these majors. It was never worth it, and most of the people are exactly as you described. Unless you are a part of the less than 1% of high level players who make money playing, you might as well do something else.
