Orpheus actually spent the last weeks of his life trying to get back into wherever Eurydice was, and wept when he couldn’t. That’s when women of a opposing religion came into the scene while he was praying and tore him apart.

We raise our cups is the song they sing at the curtain call, it's like a break in the fourth wall. The cast stands facing the audience and it's somewhat of a 'thank you for coming on a journey with us' but it's also a song that pays tribute to Orpheus who in the myth was barred from entering the underworld again and walked the Earth in his grief, since you can only travel into the underworld once.

"Is every song gonna make me cry or something?" See, here's a guide to a majority of musicals. Act 1: Happiness, joy, everything's going great! Act 2: Everything that can go wrong goes wrong. Oh so terribly horribly wrong in a way that leaves us all sobbing and numb inside

The Papers instrumental is a Fight break. The fates tear Eurydice away into a corner of the stage and hold her back; the Workers surround Orpheus, drag him back into the center of the stage every time he tries to run, and then basically beat the hell out of him. Onstage it’s definitely choreographed and fairly symbolic but definitely evocative of violence and there’s a few seconds where the symbolism drops and they’re very obviously striking at him, even kicking when he’s down. Nothing Changes is staged with the three Fates standing over Orpheus, bloodied on the ground, holding his guitar over him mockingly. Also, the Fates don’t share one eye, the Grey Sisters do. They’re different. Don’t listen to the Hercules movie.

fun fact! during Come Home With Me (Reprise) Reeve or whoever is playing Orpheus enters through the audience and he ends up next to the 5th-6th row! I almost screamed because I was so happy 😂 and then i cried again if you ever get the chance to watch this show, you should definitely go!!

3:56 True 'Nothing Changes' is the most beautiful 'give up' song but 'You Can't Win' from 'The Wiz' is the catchiest. Check it out - either Michael Jackson's version or Elijah Kelley's version. Sadly they had a different (but just as good) song in the OBC recording (Andre De Shields, the Hermes of this cast played the Wiz himself in the OBC).

Okay so, maybe not everyone got this but, in the road to hell reprise and we raise our cups, the last songs in the musical. It’s implying that they have to retell the story over and over again hoping for a better ending, and basically all those shows that we all went to of Hadestown live is them trying to retell the story. That’s why in some of the songs they give credit to the musicians of the songs and the chorus, because it’s a show, it’s them trying to retell it no matter how many times hoping it will end well this time. And I hope one day that they will make a better ending for one of the nights

It's a sad song, and we sing it again in the hopes that somehow, just this once, the words on the page will change, just like Hermes said at the start. He's the god of messengers, so it's fitting that this story literally begins with him spelling out its message...and it's in keeping with this message that every single time anyone listens to this, even if we already know every last word, we still Hope. Because it lets us imagine a world that could be, rather than just the nightmare that Is.
