In this video, we follow carnivore keepers Steph and Nick as they provide a nutritious and enriching meal for the three devils at Auckland Zoo and discuss how we care for them.
Purinina is the name for Tasmanian devils in palawa kani, the language of Tasmanian Aborigine - and is where they get their beautiful names Nita, Nawnta and Luna.
The purinina at Auckland Zoo play an important role as advocates for their wild counterparts in Tasmania. We’re proud to be partnered with Australia’s Save the Tasmanian Devil Program and their work ensuring a future for this endangered species, which is under threat from the deadly Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD).

They are a lot smaller in reality than they appear to be in photos, very interesting to watch. You have a lot more variety than you did the last time I was at Auckland Zoo which would have been in the early 1980s.

do you have to have tattoos to work at the auckland zoo?

Yikes. Tazzies and Wallabys are both adorable. And I know marsupial meat is a thing Down Under. Just finished seeing videos about both of them. Thanks, Auckland Zoo, for seeing that these critters survive and flourish. 🇦🇺🌏🍃🦋🦘🔭🌙✨💙

There are two or three wild wallaby populations in both England and Scotland - they have acclimatised to the cold as two of the populations are in the north of England, southern part of Scotland, the other is on the north Downs near Whipsnade Zoo and have been there for decades - and we often get kangaroo meat over here in Ireland in Lidl's supermarket.
