First by the Norwegian bishop, Pontoppidan, who described it as an island with arms, by others as a big whale or a Leviathan. In German it's described as an octopus. So it seems like its shape varies a lot on culture and local tales.

@@luckas221a You want me to explain it? Giant squids are faster, bigger and longer in the ways that count (Colossal squids are only technically bigger, because they way more. They just have more meat on them because they live in colder climates), giant squids are the ones that fight sperm whales mostly, and are active predators while colossal squids you can think of as giant jellyfish. Not to mention, giant squids are likely to be smarter, and they're also more successful than colossal squids, because giant squids have a much higher population. Both are about as rare, no matter what this video says, and giant squids don't get their ass kicked by a sleepy grandpa of a shark that literally moves 1 mph through the water. On a real note, greenland sharks are awesome, and I'm sorry for trashing them.

Honestly though, i dont think we will ever find anything much more larger than this. A whole team is set up to find out what this tunnel is, as something like this has never been see before, and nobody can think of how it came to be, this singular hole burrowing through the solid depths that have been covered by a deep ocean for millions of years. They decide to send a submarine drone into it, but as the pressure builds there is no end in sight. The tunnel is drenched in a suffocating darkness, as if nothing has ever been there before. The drone has already fallen five kilometers into this bottomless pit, its has reached a point where the pressure could annihilate it, as hundreds of thousands of tons of water stack up on its spherical body. The signal it sends keeps getting weaker, the picture we see looses meaning. Even illuminated by the drones flashlights, the tunnel walls and the depths below hardly differ from each other in their dense and characterless darkness. A team of researchers and experts look at the almost static screen, in awe, but anxious. Suddenly the drone breaks. The signal lost. Within milliseconds it must have been completely flattened. The last sent image remains on the screen in the researchers room. People sigh, it's over. Reliefed to have uncovered a great Mystery their thoughts already on the next mission into the abyss. They start chatting. Some talk about geological details they have noticed. People are consumed in thoughts, recollecting what they have just witnessed. Expect one researcher who has not yet moved, or talked, or even taken a breath. His eyes stay fixed on the screen. Someone notices his catatonic state, and they follow his stare onto the screen, into the corner of the picture. A tiny white speck. People take a closer look. The room goes silent. Someone comes closer to the screen, his entire consciousness focused on this anomaly. As he comes closer to observe, he desperately tries to make out what nobody understands. Then he realizes what he is looking at. It is not a small characterless singular dust particle, captured by chance. It is a set of smaller bright dots. Arranged in a circle. The flashlight of the drone, he says. It's a Reflection of the drones light, shining back into the camera.

The thing is that happens rarely, as these squids are deep water animals and only in exceptional circumstances end up close to the surface. That doesn't change the fact that if encountered, they are much more dangerous to humans than sharks.

It has been filmed alive actually but not in its natural habitat. There’s a video of some fishermen catching a gigantic squid that clearly resembles a colossal squid somewhere in Antarctic oceans. The colossal squid tried catching the bait, a toothfish, and then got reeled up to the surface. They bought the squid on board the boat because it clearly looked almost dead
