Another fantastic video, that I learned from the two of you . The black out curtains to keep it cool when it’s hot , and when it’s cold to keep it toasty inside !!! Quick meals was a plus for me that I like seeing . Both of you are very talented ( and at my age which I’m very old compare to the both of you) I’m learning a lot from the both of you and I hope I can remember most of it . Lived in ND. We've taken Rt 2 fm the ND/MN border starting at our home in Grand Forks, ND. It's an ok drive, lots of space, not too many big towns. You'll need to keep tabs on weather this time of year because it can change in an instant. And to give you a heads up the east entrance to Glacier Natl Pk is closed if you were planning to go through it. You'll need to take the route to nearby towns of E & W Glacier. That area is a really pretty drive. Also, you might get some smoke from all the fires. Good luck & be safe.

Yeah, there wasn't a lot up on route 2! But, like you said an ok drive with lot's of space. We did end up driving around to the W entrance at Glacier and it was a nice drive. Weather was weird though...wind and snow the night before. We are in the smoke now, but keeping a safe distance. Thanks for watching and commenting!

When finding a place to stop and crash just for a night while traveling, I am sure having a van is a lot easier than anything bigger. I have seen diesel pushers with their awning out, slides out, and running a generator in a Walmart parking lot at 4:PM. You could fit in just a regular spot and most people wouldn't even question. I LOVE my anti-fatigue Matt. I am a retired Mobile DJ and I used to carry one with me to put down behind my sound system! It makes a HUGE difference! Blackout window coverings are essential to me as well. Using cloth like that also helps with condensation build up while you are sleeping and it gets colder outside. Another helpful and entertaining upload!

We have seen the same at Walmart! We try not to stay at those, but sometimes it is the only option and now that we have the blackouts it is a much better sleep. Mobile DJ sounds like a fun career, I'm sure you've seen a lot! Thanks for watching!

@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the note! Appreciate your comment and ya watching! A lot places we go would accommodate bigger rigs than ours, especially since our van is not a shorty lifted 4x4 and the ground clearance is pretty similar to a class C, A, .......or TT/5er, probably has more. Some spots are smaller in size though. We are up to a week of straight boondocking in a van and are quite jealous of the large tanks and living spaces of 5ers! Have fun out there!

What a fun kick off! So glad you are back in your happy place. We drove route 2 through Michigan and into Minnesota and had alot of trouble on it - and didn't like that there were no truck stops or gas stations along the way - just newbie nerves I'm sure. So we are running 90 across to Portland - well if the smoke and flames clear up in the next week and a half. By the way, Which beach did you love running in Oregon? Love the black out curtains and great recipe. Looks so easy and so yummy! Thanks for sharing! Noelle

@noelleherzig
@noelleherzig 3 жыл бұрын
@@IreneIronTravels Oh Christine - it is sooooo disappointing but the MN run was in the parking lot of a casino! The White Oak Casino in Deer River MN. No beautiful Lake Superior or any other lake for that matter! We were trying to get 20 hours in 4 days (Labor day weekend) and we did ok the first few days finding places to stay but When we crossed into MN on route 2 we couldn't find anything off the road then came upon the casino on the map at 1 am so we stopped to sleep and I just got up and ran the parking lot the next morning to make sure I got the state done and like you said before - gotta get the workouts in when you can cuz you just don't know if you will be able to later that day or the next day. I was feeling gross from 3 days of no workouts already so it just had to be done. I didn't run WI cuz we were only there for a short time and I had already run it a few years ago - when one of my daughters got married - her husband's family is from WI so I ran after her wedding reception in WI. Whatever it takes girl! You should join me in this goal since you are travelling anyway - I bet you will beat me even though I have a head start - I think you should take the challenge! We both love a good competition I think! We are in Montana this week and next week - Then to Oregon and Washington state (Hopefully - if the fires and smoke clear) for a wedding. How are you finding Washington this week? Or have you moved on?

Great episode as usual!! Loved it! I have a few questions for you guys do not mind. Arron, you said you use a pad with google for your sprinter navigation? is that on your sprinter display built-in or a 3rd party pad? If it is not a built-in nav with maps how do you handle nav when no LTE signal? How do you guys handle the cold weather and your water system freezing when traveling? are you tanks inside the van and not exposed? Love the idea with the black out curtains in the back area, what do you do for the front cab? I previously saw you guys had screens you put up over the windshield and doors. Do you have blackouts for the front?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks! The radio/GPS unit we have is a replacement from the Kenwood that comes with these vans. It is a 10.1 in Joying Android-based unit. I called it a tablet, but it's not removable. So you can download any apps just like an Android phone. So one app we use is Google Maps for navigation. It has a cool feature where you can download large sections of the map for offline use when not in service. We do this for national parks and other remote regions. We try to avoid cold weather as much as possible because it's just not enjoyable in a van! But we have had overnights in the desert and similar areas in the high 20's. Your water lines won't freeze if its only for a night and then heats back up during the day. The grey and fresh tanks are under the van and exposed to the elements along with water lines. They do have electric heating pads on them, but you would have to be plugged in because of the power draw. The black tank is inside under the toilet. The new blackout thermal curtains are awesome and not only stop the light, but also stop the draft from the big windows. We are working on getting blackout/thermals for the front also, and can't wait. The screens we used for the front works for privacy and also sun blockage in the daytime, but don't do anything at night.

I apologize for the dumb question, but are you downloading your Google Maps on a tablet or a phone? And if it is the tablet are you using that for your gps? We usually use the navigator on our phones to get us to places, but a tablet would be a better visual.

Not a dumb question at all! We had an unusual setup in the van with an aftermarket radio that was a 7in Android Tablet as well. But yes you could just use any tablet as long as it has internet service via Wifi or its own data plan. You just download google maps and it works for directions just like your phone but bigger. We really liked having that in the van. We now use Android auto from our phone tethered to our 7 in radio in the truck.

We will be putting out a video recapping everything.

I can't find your video where you weighed the RV on a scale. What did you weigh in at?

We actually never posted that video. Just went to a Cat scale and we did film it though. Thank you for the reminder we will work on it!

We are due for a little TEXAS action! That is where we first started out in Jan of 2019 and haven't been back yet! Great state and look forward to going back sometime.

I don't drive often. Chris drives about 99% of the time because she is not a good passenger and I don't mind!🤣

Is your van 30amp, 50amp or solor?
@IreneIronTravels
@IreneIronTravels 2 жыл бұрын
It is a 30amp and we added 400 amps of lithium batteries, 300 watts of solar, and a 3000va inverter.

You need to mic up. Tires too loud and drown out your voice.
@IreneIronTravels

Hello! Yes, the AT tires are loud at highway speeds and we try not to record talking scenes during it. I also cringed when editing it........ I have been watching cordless lav mics and will get them in the future at some point. Thanks for watching!

Your clip of the 2020 Airstream Interstate led me to your review video of this model. I know you like the shorter 22’ model. Have you ever looked at Pleasure Way’s Plateau TS or FL models? Has many of the features you liked on the 2020 Airstream you reviewed, but is 22’9’ long. Here’s the link to their KZfaq video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jZaRq7Z7tpfdhGQ.html

Yes, we do really like PW also. I think their Plateau FL would be the model we would choose because of the two separate work spaces. And it's probably most similar to the Airstream Grand Tour model.

Irene Iron Fitness On the TS model I believe you can put a Lagun table mount on the driver’s side wall corner to add a 2nd work space up front. Get a 2nd table and you’re set up for two workspaces. I like the kitchen and bathroom better in the TS model, adding that 2nd Lagun table would be great for me. Once this pandemic is over I’m going rig shopping!

I recently discovered your channel and have watched, and enjoyed, a few of your videos. I was very interested in "today's" topic, but I quit watching after the onset of the road noise. I see that others also have commented on the noise. Follow Don Hall's suggestion and get a mike, now. If you want your viewers to care about your videos, you have to show us that you care about them. I'm trying not to be negative, but I will not watch movies, videos, etc. that have bad audio.

Hello, thanks for following along! Yes, I agree with poor audio videos being hard to watch and would also find my self clicking off so I don't think you are being negative... just honest. The bad audio in the first driving scene was caused by the hum from our all terrain tires. We do use a Rode audio mic on our camera which was about two feet from me on the dash. I think Don was referring to lav mics on person which probably would help some, but we truly can't record while driving highway speeds as I think any mic would pick up the road noise. I knew this would bother some but the scene was already shot weeks prior and I wanted to show how we route plan while actually driving along in "real time" . Thanks for the feedback.
