Thank you for some positive insight. We live in a small 3 bedroom home, with our 5 children, and our neighbors have not-so-nice opinions about it. This has made the guilt I feel only heavier, for not being able to offer a bigger home for our children by now. We've been here for 15 years, we love the large property and we're a close knit family, but sometimes it's nice to be reassured that a big house isn't everything.

I was raised this way, only more kids. Some children do OK in a crowd, others are tramatized for life. To this day I can't bear to be crowded. My parents, too, were great at logistics and Bible reading. They learned the hard way good organization is not a substitute for attentiveness to each child's emotional needs and individuality.

Good morning! My best friends in school were all from large families. One had 10 siblings and the other had 6. One friend lived with grandparents just a little walk away from our home. All the aunts, uncles, and cousins were in and out of that place. Houses weren't huge, but they were my favorite homes to visit. Always something to do, always so much love, and always good food!! 🥰

Until the past 60 years that was the norm. Our family lives in a modest house I bought at 20. What’s strange are these empty houses that are just enormous and so many struggling baby boomers becoming the elderly in them, but without family to care for them or keep them out of a bad nursing home. They are saying the generation that claimed free love over marriage and claimed independence by career over kids feminism are now the lonely generation desperate for any help they can get.
@SRose-vp6ew
@SRose-vp6ew Жыл бұрын
And I’m not trying to be insensitive. Far from it. I am heartbroken. I keep meeting women at stores in different places and they are telling me how terrified they are after having say divorce their husband, never had kids, never adopted kids, focused on A career they thought cared but didn’t really, and now even friends are dying and even if they cares for elderly they now see their is no one to care for them. I know this is a downer, but it’s also a fact that boomers are twice as likely to not zero kids verses those who passed on 10 years ago who all had several kids helping take care of them. It’s literally one in five over the age of 55 and under the age of 65 that don’t have kids. The US would be in dangerous population decline if it wasn’t for one in seven people being an immigrant more likely to have family.

We did have a large amount of books and cassette tapes for music appreciation and stories . Theyspent time outside everyday where my kids built forts and climbed trees on out 11 acres. Build loft floors in your two spare rooms so 2 bedrooms becomes 4 bedrooms. You can put a long low dresser, 2 twin mattress and a tv on the wall on each "floor" and then 4 people can comfortably sleep in a room with 2 TV's in the room. So 2 rooms = 4 rooms = 8 twin mattresses = 4 dressers = 4 TVs = 8 kids in 2 rooms. You can make it like they each have their own fort with some curtains and string lights.

I grew up, second eldest of 12 children. We first lived in a two bedroom house with a partially finished "under the eaves, half story upstairs, that was one huge dorm room, that my Dad divided into to bedrooms. He also built a bedroom in the basement for the boys. It was small, but we got along... many happy memories there. When I was 17, my parents sold that home, and bought a split entry home, with two bedrooms upstairs, along with the kitchen and living/dining area. Downstairs were three bedrooms and a 3/4, very spartan, bathroom. The 4 th corner was a laundry room with sauna and shower at one end.

We were 6 people on 1 income & 1 bathroom. My ex was a navy brat with 11 siblings so he was used to scraping and scrimping, which we did ALOT with 4 kids. Five or six would've been ok but don't think I could handle 10 kids in such a small space. And yet this family makes it work, they clearly love each other immensely! What beautiful children, we should all be so blessed to have such lovely down-to-earth undemanding kids!! A very impressive family. And as a boardgame lover, after my own heart, lol! I would suggest adding an IKEA cabinet to the area where the dishwasher was. Not expensive at all and you can put super sliders on the feet to just slide it into the cavity. I did that in my kitchen and absolutely love how functional it is with full extension drawers! The rest of my kitchen is dark face frame cabinets so I got a couple of interior drawers that close all the way into the cabinet and a slab front door. The drawers had to be mounted above the bottom hinge and below the top hinge so that’s where I used the shelves that came with the cabinet. I used big sheet pans on those shelves to corral items but easily be able to pull them out. The slab front doesn’t match my cabinets but just looks like a dishwasher with concealed controls. So much more functional than the wire rack like yours that I had there before!

But honestly any kid under 10 or 11 could share a sponge too. We also had cloth napkins, smaller sized not real thick, that were washed daily. My cousins used nice ones with a napkin ring for each n washed it @3-4 days. They used rags for paper towels too and washed them. Someone was always washing a load lol 3 loads a day

Your house is so cute and warm! It's not how big your home is but how loved it is! Some people have huge homes and they have show rooms that are not used which is crazy! A home should have favorite spots for everyone, pets included. Our pets have their favorite spots where their beds are and other spots in the kitchen or sitting in the sun room, living room and bedrooms. A good home is where everyone is comfortable, safe and loved.

I have friends in High School who were from very very large families 12 - 13 kids. Wow. The households were just havoc. nThe parents never knew exactly what any of the kids were doing and the kids grew up never actually learning things they really should have learned. But one thing about both these families - even now as senior citizens - the kids have all stayed very very close throughout their lives. Siblings are a #1 priority to them.

I love the way yall make everything work! It doesn't have to be a huge house!! There are more important things than that. Honestly...when you guys do finish your "Big House" I'm gonna miss the tiny one. 🤣😊

I. LOVE. THIS. HOUSE! It makes me feel so cozy! It is comfortable and useful. I look at stuff as to whether it is useful and makes the most use of space. I am not one to set 3 books, a plant, and 2 knickknacks on a book shelf. I fill it left to right and top to bottom. With books. I currently live in a bedroom and am in the process of trying to fit everything I own(which is mainly my crafting stuff) in it, while making it functional, livable, AND cozy. It’s a slow process, but, it is happening.😊

Very nice! We have a large family - 6 all together! We've been in a 4000sq ft farmhouse to a 1 bedroom with bunks & queen bed. I find for my family the 1 bedroom is sufficient. We're outside, like you, a lot more. Our kids are close in age so that makes everything easier! Thanks for the video! It was great to see how another family lives like we do!

Wow!! You have done a amazing job in functioning with a large Family! 👏 In a World where People live in too big houses with high mortgages and living in debt, this is so refreshing! It reminds me of the stories that my Grandpa wrote when he was little and the Tiny Home he grew up with. It is possible to live tiny. It takes alot of creativity and organization! So impressive! 💖💖💖 We are moving in 28 days from a 650 sq foot apartment to a 400 sq foot Condo and so many people think that's weird! My kids are grown so it's just me and Hubby. We are SO EXCITED about living tiny!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗. Less stuff, less stress!! 🙏. New subscriber 😊

My husband and I have no children, but I was raised in a small space with my siblings and I love small spaces. I love older homes also. None of my siblings are like me. They love the big McMansions and do not understand why I like the simple life.

While growing up, we washed dishes by hand even though we had a dish washer. After I got married it took me like 6 years before I started using the dishwasher daily.
