Nice score... I do so ever love the free section on Craigslist. In the last two years alone, I have scored camping gear, dehydrated food, 6 coach tires, and a literal boatload of other kit that saved me from spending tens of thousands out of pocket. I have backups of backups and enough gear to support a good dozen people off grid in the middle of nowhere. While not free, my 88 Bounder did only cost me $500. My recent score was over $1500 in free vinyl fabric rolls, rolls of 1/2" foam, industrial thread and leather hides that I am turning into thermal blinds to keep the heat in this winter as well as reupholstering my couch and seats to match the blinds when I can teach myself auto upholstery. Having a fair deal of boondocking experience, parking the trailer in the field in the backwoods you really need to buy a few gallons of bug killer and spray the heck out of the underside of the RV in addition to every orifice on the roof and exterior walls plus every inch of the tires and jack stands. Even with rain it should last a good six months or longer before needing retreatment. The ants/termites will be all over the place if you don't. Get yourself a big bag of diatomaceous earth and spread it under the RV if you plan to leave it for any length of time. The combination of the bug killer and the DE will keep her protected from most every invasion she'll get in your absence. Field mice will undoubtedly find a way in. Head to the dollar store and buy out their cheap steel wool to shove in every gap or hole that you can find. The underside of the old girl must have more than a few good sized entries with all the water damage. Damn shame about that. Then for a last line of defense, build yourself a five gallon bucket mouse trap with a gallon of ammonia in the bottom. Leave it in the the vacant RV and even if they get in they won't cause much damage if they are drowned in the ammonia and when they decompose they won't stink up the place too much. I had a trap set out under my coach all summer and had a good two dozen of the bastards in it by the end of August. No doubt had I not they would have invaded me many times over. Enjoy your newly found off grid home. For the price she's a beauty...

nice old camper, but if they just set and not used and not maintained, therenare probably lots of places in it with hidden water damage, thats what took the floor out, and if wasnt properly drained and winterized, the plumbing would be broken as well from freezing. Make sure that roof is solid and redone so no leaking.

I had a few questions.I hope thats ok.(1). is there any certain states you are more likely to find a free or super cheap camper? most I see here in Ga. are not free or that cheap, It can be a gutted out piece of junk but instead of offering it for free"If they did they could get a pretty good tax deduction"They will part them out and them they sell or do something with the scrap metal. (2). When you have gotten a camper for your family and friends if they want or need them. Do you post somewhere to lead others to those ad's some of us would pay a tow fee from another state if need be. but as I said I have never seen one in my state or surrounding states. (3) is more of a statement,Thank you for posting this and I'm happy you were that fortunate. yes you will have to put some money and work into it but some of these are in the thousands and you still have to put in money to fix some things.
