That man is terribly lucky. And the lady's Cantonese is astoundingly good. Really. I was born in a Cantonese household in America, and in some aspects, her Cantonese is possibly better than mine. Good God, the embarrassment. Not to be condescending but sorry it's totally ridiculous; she even knows the little Cantonese slang-y words and syntaxes that I thought only lifelong Cantonese speakers would know. It's like she's Cantonese inside. If you told me she was a Hong Kong woman whose mind was transferred into a different body, I'd believe it! lol! My head is exploding.

I can relate. Being a fluent English speaking Chinese, I know it shouldn't be unusual at all when a non-Chinese is able to speak fluent Chinese, but my mind is still blown every time.

+rikkilake Mandarin is one thing, Cantonese is a whole other thing. It's incredibly hard to master for non-native speakers. Olivia has it down though...very impressed!

Man why's it always that the asian male is "lucky"... come to California this is not extremely uncommon that it is mystical... I go to KZfaq to learn cantonese and I am met with more racism that is perpetuated by my own side.

Wow, I can speak cantonese. Your cantonese is REALLY good. Many people who's first language is not Cantonese struggle to perfectly pronounce words. Your Cantonese, although with a slight accent, is almost perfect!

Seriously impressed by your Cantonese. My late maternal grandad was Cantonese but I didn't speak much as a kid. I remember going to Chinatown in Melbourne, Australia and at the Chinese restaurant, the waiter asked if I wanted " Tong Sui". I stared at him like a goldfish because I had no idea what he was speaking.

You’re a great couple. I’m a kiwi-born Chinese and only spoke only Cantonese until I went to school at 5 years of age. I’m 62 now and I really don’t get a lot of opportunity to practice as my wife is white Australian and as you know, if you don’t practice continually, you easily lose it. If I close my eyes Xenia, I would swear you were an HK Chinese. 4-years, truly well done, you must have a natural aptitude for languages and I guess you were highly motivated because of your love for your husband. Awesome!!! All the best for your future to you both

thank you! I can write with the pinyin method on the phone and computer (so thinking in Mandarin), and I can read too, that's why I can type. No hand writing for me :p I speak much better than I read or type though.

Your Cantonese is better than mine! :/ I was born in HK but lived in Canada most of my life. I can still understand it but am very rusty speaking it. I'm married to a Japanese woman and I hope I can learn Japanese as I help her improve her English (and the occasional Cantonese). I see you're from Barcelona. I visited there back in 2009 and loved it during my three months stay.
