Take a look at how we put together our end-of-year homeschool portfolios. A portfolio is a nice way to highlight the best work your kids have done throughout the year. It also gives them a nice keepsake to look through for years to come.

Good video. As an eclectic unschooling family, portfolios are what we submit for our annual review. My son is always blown away by what all he has learned in a year.

Great video! I'm an evaluator up in Maine and also a former public school teacher turned homeschool Mom. My oldest is in kindergarten and I'm getting ready to put my own children's first portfolios together! Although we don't have to have a portfolio in Maine, I do need to see "evidence of progress" in each content area and an attendance record when I conduct evaluations. For families that choose to use a portfolio, less is definitely easier! The portfolios you shared in your video that you put together with your children are beautiful! Just what I had in mind for my own children. The 1/2" binder is a great "container" limit! :)

Thank you! Oh wow, nice to meet you! That's a good way to put it..."container" limit. Yes, a smaller binder means you can only put so much in it! Thanks for chiming in and giving the perspective of another evaluator from a different state!

I love it. You still have a school teacher in you, in the good sense; method and goals. I don't homeschool, but just seeing my not-so-kids any more old notebooks, from one year to the next, it's amazing, every little thing changes.

I would love to see more in depth on a Highschool portfolio and transcript. One of my 4 children will start high school next year. Trying to get all my ducks in a row.

We have several bound workbooks ... Would you scan and put copies of work in the portfolio or would you just bring the whole workbook?

I personally wouldn't go to the trouble of scanning. That sounds like a lot of work! We have a couple of consumable workbooks and I just tear the pages out. If you don't want to do that, I guess the best alternative would be to bring the whole workbook along to your evaluation.
