Guys, you have to understand that Taiwan's foundation on English language is a bit weak, so do try to understand the efforts that he had put into speaking English. As a Malaysian Chinese myself, I do understand "perfecting" the non-native language is not easy. For the majority of Chinese here, we speak multiple languages and dialects, as long the others understand what we are trying to say, it's ok for us.

i tried it and so far this is the best remote access software i've ever used.. i've been considering buying a gaming laptop, but the drawback is they're relatively bulky and heavy. and i'm going to carry it around for travel. the thin ones probably not that powerful, and also the price tends to be absurd.. With this, i can allocate 60-70% the budget of the standard gaming laptop to buy a relatively-same-specs desktop and the rest could be allocated to a lightweight, compact ultrabook. whenever i need to do a heavy workload, i can remote the desktop using parsec..

Finally people started discovering Parsec
@svampebob007
@svampebob007 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a shame that they are finally discovering Parsec when there's also NoMachine out there :( it offers basically all this, with mulitmonitor 4k for free!, the paid versions of NoMachine allows several connections to the computer and a whole bunch more, but personally Parsec has nothing on NoMachine. I've used NM at over 9000km away from a 2mbps (fiber) connection and god damn it's good, I was even able to get it working over 4G AT OVER 9000KM! The reason I was looking at parsec is for the same issue that the editors are complaining about, sound and image. But as a remote client/server, nothing beats unthethered control, like allowing the end user to set up a regular SSH key for actual authentication, and not needing to create a user for the service. This means it's basically 100% independent, the software company could go out of business and as long as you got the installation file, it's good to go. I do not work for NM, I'm just a happy client that is amazed that this software isn't more widely used, my guess is because they focus a lot on Linux since it allows remote access to computers that do not even have a GPU in them! perfect for managing VM hosting machines with a GUI! (my kind of work)

I work for a national public broadcaster (similar to your CBC) and we use HP's Remote Graphics Software suite for this purpose. We already prepared for this crisis while drawing up a Business Continuity Plan, and foresaw the need that editors would have to work remotely while still able to use the performance from the workstation at work. We are a HP and HPE-heavy house. At the workplace (editing cells) the whole family of HP Z workstations is used: Z230/Z240, Z440, Z840 and since recently also the Z4/Z6 and Z8. The editors at home use their EliteBook 850 G3 and G5's, or if they are lucky and their manager allowed the extra expense, they also could choose a ZBook 15/17 G3/G5 for some local medium-intensive editing. As the company is using an all HP-ecosystem, there is no need for licensing and the software is free. When one uses a non-HP system at the sending end, a paid license per workstation is needed. Depending on how many editors you employ, you could maybe look into it and see if the issues with Maya or other 3D modelling software are less interfering. As for remote accessing the editing workstations: these are located in the production LAN (no DMZ, workstations have no public IP), so access is provided by Pulse Secure's VPN. As Pulse licenses are expensive, we recently started transitioning Windows workstations to Microsoft's own AlwaysOn VPN so they no longer consume a Pulse license (we were limited to 250 concurrent users before the crisis, and had to buy a very expensive 2000 user license for 8 weeks to overcome this problem).
@steveheist6426

Considering he runs all custom-built editing rigs for his staff, it might not be worth buying HP's licenses for anywhere from 8 to 15 machines.

My company is using Citrix for CAD users, like myself. I have more latency issues than you, but our internet in the office is 40 down and 15-20 up with at least 5 people using it at the same time, plus another 10+ users connecting via VPN to access network drives. It has true dual monitor support and works even if the host computer has no displays connected. It uses 2FA through Microsoft. I find it allows me to work almost as efficiently as working in the office. Some users are experiencing frequent disconnects, but I have had absolutely no issues myself. It isn’t perfect, but for CAD, it is great. Also, it runs as a service, so I can log off my machine and restart it and have no issues reconnecting. Since the software does not need displays attached, it turns them off during a remote session and no one can see your screen in the office.

first I think the architecture should be,,,(all the files in one place, (LMG has that?) ) second why not simply make a vpn, then you can try remote desktop directly, or,,,you could then try any and all other software to your hearts content? (having a predefined vpn tunnel, maybe keep a constant ping rolling tends to improve over time as the network gear in between "learns" a new traffic pattern, more its used ,,more its always available? maybe its just me, but going to a 3rd party to help you setup remote desktop,,,and then paying them ,,,to help keep it on,,I just thought LMG was better and could handle that on their own? the caveat may be for mac users who have no vpn software available? or remote desktop software (I know this exists though? maybe its farming out the support? that has appeal? a suddent inrush of 30 plus people could be overwhelming? does lmg have a IT internal admin and helpdesk?

I've been playing with Parsec to help me make it through the pandemic too, and I've found much the same: while it is full of compromises (some a lack of development on their part, others deliberately imposed to sell their pro plan), it's one of the only options out there right now even APPROACHING the level of low-latency needed to feel as though you're actually "on" the other computer. Fortunately, there are a lot of new entrants into this space (the open-source Moonlight is an exciting one, and Rainway seems to fill the exact same niche). I certainly hope to see one with Linux host support soon, as this is very painfully missing from almost all of them today.

I tell him I’ll just let him know how many hours I worked at home. And of course he asked me if I would bring my personal computer to work. 😂 ha! no way! But I would be happy to build the office a decent computer. To which he reply’s, “oh no $1500 is too expensive for a computer. Why can’t you just use one of the iMacs here at the office?” And I reply, “those iMacs are too expensive to edit video on” 😂

Parsec feels a lot more seamless than Steam Link and has a slightly better image quality with explicit resolution and bitrate settings which I quite liked. What I don't like about Parsec is that they can update it without notice and they often make weird moves removing some useful features like displaying Windows-specific keys at the top of the phone's screen when you tap with three fingers to access your keyboard.
