We've been living in Taiwan for 6 months so far, so it's now time to show you how much Mandarin Chinese we were able to learn within that period of time. In that video we will show you our routine, how we learn, and how much we can speak.

I'm still in awe by how quickly you guys pick up the local language. It definitely helps by immersing yourself in the culture and interacting with the locals, but you guys still learn and adapt at an amazing pace. Well done so far guys!

Still a long way to go but we'll do our best, thanks! 😁 Yes, we believe that immersion is one if not the most important. As it not only helps improving, but also understand the culture to know exactly what to say at a given situation!

我覺得六個月可以達到這種程度已經很厲害了!發音算挺標準的,比一些學兩三年的還標準。真的厲害👍 疫情時期學語言可能比較困難,不好交流,或許可以看看一些電視劇也許有幫助(韓國有youtuber是這樣學的)。

Love your videos/content! Keep them coming! Wish we would see more videos per week or month but I definitely understand you guys living and enjoying your lives in these countries. I would love to learn new languages, but I just feel like I'm too old (31) and don't have the patience. It's a shame my parents never taught me Tagalog (I'm Filipino) growing up so I really only know English. I know just basic Spanish to get around at work but that's it. I would love to learn my own language, Spanish, and French.

Mandarin is my first language. To me, Cantonese is the combination of ancient Chinese and slang. I can speak few words with “English accent” because it’s easier to mimic the pronunciation with English syllables than with Mandarin syllables.

I just want to point out how insane it is that you guys are able to pick up languages this quickly. Pierre has to work on his chinese tones because it still sounds very "white" but Steven sounds extremely natural. It boggles my mind how Steven speaks english with an Aussie accent and speaks chinese like a southeast asian Chinese (Singaporean, Malaysian) on top of being a native French speaker. My native languages are English and Chinese and I'm out here struggling to get my "R" sounds in French properly and you guys are already putting me to shame speaking Chinese this well! You guys continue to amaze me with the speed you pick up languages and how fast you can start conversing in the language. Yall are more than a travel channel to me at this point because you inspire me to continue learning languages as a hobby. I hope I'd be able to meet up with you guys during my travels when my country's borders allow me to start travelling again!

Thank you for your comment! That's nice to hear a native speaker's opinion! We are still working on our Chinese so stay tuned for the 1 year progress video! The "R" sound is probably the hardest in French, as well as the nasal sounds such as "en", "on", "an". Drop us a text if you're around! :)

Something I'm wondering.. Does speaking languages you already know ever get harder as you learn more languages? Do you mix up words/grammar more often?
@thewhvnomads7415
@thewhvnomads7415 3 жыл бұрын
Actually, we usually focus on one language at a time, and when we feel comfortable enough with it, we move on to the next one. The better you know the language, the harder it is to mix it with another one, however if you don't practice one of them for a while, you might start mixing it with the one you're currently studying! That was the case for Spanish when we lived in Russia as there were no Spanish speakers there. When we tried to speak Spanish we sometimes couldn't find some words because of Russian so my advice is to learn a language well before you move on to the next one and keep practicing it! :)

The hardest is to find whatever method suits you best. Some people prefer using books but if you use your phone often, sacrificing some social media time to use apps such as Duolingo isn't a bad start! Once you're gaining some confidence, finding native speakers is the best to practice, apps like HelloTalk can help you with that!
