Hi! I’m Laura, homeschooling mom to three, I believe life is about learning; and motherhood is no exception. With children constantly growing and changing and life forever moving forward, there are always new challenges to overcome. As I journey through motherhood, I am learning more and more the importance of balance.
I’m eager to hear from you too, because this journey of motherhood can be overwhelming, and us mammas gotta stick together!
“Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.” ~1Thessalonians 5:11

This was so helpful! We’ve use Notgrass history and really enjoyed it in the past. For my 6 yr old we’ve been doing masterbooks “my story” and Gods design for Life and they have been good fits - so I’m glad to hear the America’s story and the Physical World go well together for future years!

I’ve heard really good things about Notgrass too! I’m glad you’ve found some resources that work really well for you. We have really enjoyed America’s Story and the God’s Design series - they’re just great fits for our family. I hope what you’re using continues to be a great fit for yours too!

Thank you for this!!!! We’ve been torn between Notgrass and America’s story. I think we have made up our mind now.

Do you use America’s Story, are you checking it out, or do you have another History curriculum you love? I’d love to hear all about it!

Thank you for sharing! We use America’s story but we take out the art and some of the writing in the teacher’s guide… we add read aloud books throughout the year!

We don't use the teachers guide for America's Story either. We do purchase the additional timeline resources, which are color pictures. We add read alouds, too! What are some of your favorite read alouds that you use with AS2? We do the Evan Moor history pockets, too. Sounds like we are very similar in how we use it.

I should really look into the timeline. That might be a great resource for our timeline book. As far as read alouds for AS2, I think these are the ones we’ve read so far. I might be missing a couple: Riding Freedom The Iron Dragon Never Sleeps The Great Turkey Walk Various Heroes of History Biographies John Lincoln Clem: Civil War Drummer Boy Little Women, The Prarie Thief I’m still working on a list for the rest of the book, but here’s the list of books I had in my initial idea set: Tales from Maple Ridge (series) Soun Tetoken: Naz Pierce Boy Tames a Stallion City of Orphans Starting from Seneca Falls The Forty Acre Swindle: George Washington Carver Dog Diaries #9 - Chicago Fire Prairie Lotus A Bandit’s Tale: The Muddled Misadventures of a Pickpocket The Great Fire by Jim Murphy Billy Bud and the Breadbox Sarah Plain and Tall Some of these would be the earlier part of AS2, but that was my brainstorm list.

And my oldest has read several on his own. He likes books by Avi (Iron Thunder). I can look up the other ones if that would be helpful too.

I love the idea of pairing the science with it…how creative! I’m thinking we’re going to forego the teacher guide too 🙃

I think the teacher guide works well for some families, we just do better without. :) It’s so much fun to pair science with it, and it keeps both my history buff and science lover engaged. :)

@@TicketToLearning agree on the teacher guide. Maybe if mine were older! I’m gonna think more on how to pair science and history 🧐 not sure it will work with the science units we chose this year but we’ll see!

@@thepracticalhomeschooler space could go at the beginning because explorers used the stars to navigate. Mammals or ecosystems would go well with Lewis and Clark and moving West. Mammals could go well there too.

We have been using America's Story as a spine text while doing Sonlight D &E. It is a more engaging text and we have enjoyed it.

It’s so well written. I would have never thought to use it with Son Light, but I bet that’s a really fantastic combination. Do you replace it with one/some of Sonlight’s suggestions or do you add America’s Story as an extra?
@rrichards1210
@rrichards1210 3 жыл бұрын
I start with AS and add the SL books where they fit with the topic. Any books that don't fit neatly I evaluate to read or not. I think we have only skipped 2 or 3, and added some also. Sometimes we do 2 AS lessons in a week, other times with great reading books if might be 1 lesson a month.
