Oh Clare, (I replied to the clip you shared on twitter) I am awful at geography, you mentioned passing I just about passed it in junior cert and I'm in leaving cert now and didn't pick it. This was hilarious 😂 😂 I had to pause the video to cry laughing every time you said 'is that on the map?' this was wonderful, made me feel better that I'm not alone with my v bad geography skills 🗺

I knew this was gonna be a riot right off the bat when you sat down; w/o looking; in that thumb tack. I made it to the 4 min mark before I had to pause it. I was dying laughing. If Alex got any redder from laughing, he'd look like a tomato. Don't get me wrong, being out of school for 10 years, you're bound to forget somethings (I have and I won't admit it); but an entire semester of geography? Bless your heart. My experience is us Irish tend to be a bit better in general but we have clueless people (my sister being one). Most my American friends are shocking at geography.

LOL!!! In Canada, knowing your geography is knowing your neighbour. Every one has a cousin in Toronto (Ontario Canada), it is the world's MOST cosmopolitan city. Come to Toronto to brush up on your geography, spend time in the city with the most numerous ethnic neighborhoods. In eight days you can travel the planet and never leave the city (ten times faster than Jules Verne). BONUS: A couple hours drive outside Toronto is the beautiful and romantic Niagara Falls, a must for you and the hubby.

My wife was convinced that Alaska was an island. In the 1960's ,elementary school maps of the United States showed the lower 48, Hawaii and Alaska but not Canada.

I'm not going to say that map knowledge is all that essential, but concepts like polar locations are pretty important for a basic understanding of the planet. Beyond that, map knowledge can help you understand the psychology of certain nations, like Australia being off by itself, or Russia being both European and Asian. Did you know that in Russia, they teach children that Europe and Asia are a single, unified continent? And in South American countries, they believe that North America and South America are a single continent. Whereas children in English-speaking nations are taught that all those places are separated. It has a subtle influence on how we view each other, I think.

Wow That looks like a really fun game! And using thumbtacks was a cool idea did you think of that yourself? I think I'd be really good at that game my grandma gave me a big map puzzle so I pretty much spent two weeks just staring at a map and now I have it pretty much all memorized. Maybe you should try a map puzzle and you would get better at it it works I promise it works. Blasphemy.

Don't worry Clisare it's so hard for me to know the smaller countries in Europe. Some say it's blasphemy that I don't know more of the European countries, however, I can get most of the bigger countries right. I think you did a good job!
