One time, I asked my mom who was her favorite child and she said she loved us all equally. I didn't believe her for a second so I kept telling her she had to pick. She wouldn't budge so I asked her who was her least favorite child instead and she said all of us. I can't blame her though, none of us are doctors.

My mom always is like "I love both of you equally!" while always picking my brother's side in arguments just because " he's older so he knows more " and always complimenting him and saying how he is such a great child to my other relatives, and always comparing me to my him.
@tubax926
@tubax926 Жыл бұрын
Don't let it get to you man, I'm sure she actually loves both of you equally, and age is a very good reason to treat both of you differently. She compares you to him because he has more achievements under his belt; since he has had more time than you to get those. Also this is totally natural. If the older brother is already successful in her eyes the mother will try to support him as much as she can, because you will get support from both her and your brother, so you don't need as much support from her as your brother does. It's evolutionary and logical Focus on your relationship with your brother instead of dwelling over how your mother treats you, your brother will always be with you, while your mother will eventually retire and you'll live separately.

I went through the same thing except I’m the other (Golden) sibling. I see how it really got to my sister. Despite how hard I’ve worked to let her know that I saw our childhood the same way she did, Today, she doesn’t trust anyone, harbors toxic levels of resentment, acts like a child emotionally, and every time she’s in a disagreement she calls it “taking the opposite side of her” as opposed to genuinely having a different take on something. So while I cannot and will not understand your experience, my advice to you is to grieve what you didn’t get but absolutely deserved; move forward understanding you may never be loved the way you deserve by your family, and love yourself the way you were always meant to be loved. I may be the golden child but our family was all types of fcked up. So I removed myself from the family when I turned 18, became my own person and learned more about myself, nurtured some of my childhood wounds and when I returned, I was able to see things clearly. My mom tried her best with what she had. Your parents are human too. They messed up, but it doesn’t mean they wanted it to be that way. They just don’t understand what you need the way you do, and you may not know how to articulate it yet. Do you. My sister didn’t do that and ended up the way she is now and tbh she has huge woe is me energy, is super selfish, can’t maintain relationships with others, has emotional outbursts etc. You may have been dealt a shitty hand as a child but when an adult, you are free. You a get to choose your actions. if you want to be better, it’s your responsibility and no one else’s. And what you gain was a result of your choices. If you stay the same or become worse, that was your choice too. They made a mess in your house. Does matter more that your house is clean? (The right choice) Or that they be the ones to clean it up? (The egotistical choice) The house is you. If you want something better you have to accept may have to move forward without them.

At least she cared enough to lie...? The irony for me is that my older sister was a handful, she was the first one, the beloved one. My mother took her side regardless of if she was right or wrong. The worst thing I ever did was outperform her in school (thought I could earn my mother's love at least.) But it made me more hated 😅 It's better to let it go (I know it's not easy or completely possible.) Some things aren't worth trying to change or can. If I realized that sooner my childhood might've been a bit better.

As an Asian it is not actually hate. It is more like a challenge the parents do for the children to aim better in life if one wants the approval of the parent they will strive to out do the other to please the parent. It's like when you get sick they will scold you and throw words at you and call you stupid but deep down they are worried like crazy they just don't show it. They have a very different way of showing love. Hahaha.

Turns out she also got the same treatment like me from our mom and plus from me. She doesn't have anyone to vent it so she vent it on herself, aka self harm. I'm so shocked when I know about it. We're a little more honest in my family, especially as adults. One of my relatives admitted it too, even though I was in the car. We laughed, and I said the same thing. Now I was extremely close to my grandma who is not attached to our favorite--as we're half-siblings, but the rest of the family upholds one. This is because she doesn't whine, is the hardest worker in our family, and is the most attractive. If she saw machines, dirt, leaves, and broken furniture piled up to the ceiling in mom's garage, she would just go to it and pick it up like nothing.

I'm the middle child in an African American family... and the introverted one. I am literally no one's favorite in my immediate or extended family. Hurts so good.

Asian parents actually love their kids a lot, they just dont know how to express it. After all, they want us to get straight A and encourage us to become doctor and lawyer, but thats because they want the best for us. Every parents love their kids, and we Asians have the tradition of loving and caring for each other

As a Chinese, luckily my mom never say such mean thing to me. More like the American parents. They will say love us equally. But in reality treat me much better than my sister.
