Adapter for Leica lens to Nikon F mount - Is this possible? There is no adapter for Leica M to Nikon F mount but you can buy a Leica R to Nikon AI adapter which replaces the rear mount of the Leica R lens. This converts Leica R bayonet fit to Nikon F bayonet fit so you can fit a Leica R lens on your Nikon FM2 / Nikon FE2 etc. I converted my Leica Summicron 50mm lens to Nikon F mount so I can use a smaller/ lighter camera with 1/250 flash sync speed and 1/4000 maximum shutter speed.

Matt was first person to get me thinking seriously about acquiring Leica equipment. I started with R lenses. World changing image quality improvement. I have “Nikonified” 5 R lenses so far. All perform flawlessly on my Nikon bodies. I then added an attachment adapter to adapt my Nikon F mount adapted Leica lenses to my SL2. It sounds more cumbersome than it is in actual practice. The quality of the resulting images makes all the effort absolutely worth it!

Really great to hear this! Yes I love the look from these lenses. I'm excited to use it more on the lighter smaller Nikon bodies - i'll be able to pack it more often in future.

I doubt it.. everyone is already buying them to shoot video so a few film shooters won't make a difference. The price has already jumped since the cine guys took a liking to them.

Strongly recommend Leitax conversion mounts. I coverted Carl Zeiss Nikon F-mount to Pentax K-mount using Leitax mount conversion kits. Easy to do, extremely high quality, no play in it.

The lenses cost more than the bodies for Leica, and shooting a rangefinder is faster on focusing than SLR, so you might as well just shoot your Leica M3. It's more discreet as well and in my opinion, it looks better.

Yes it was an experiment. I much prefer RF cameras don't worry! The Nikons are good for flash and a few things but I need precise focus so the M3 wins. That is the most important thing to me. I need fast lens photos in focus.

I haven't used the Leica lenses so I may be wrong? But vintage Nikon lenses are insanely sharp and have tons of character.

Yes! I have the Nikkor 50mm f2 AI (amongst many others) so i'm excited to see if I can see a difference on film. (As a Leica guy/ channel it was more the novelty factor too I think!)

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Hi Matt not sure the 50mm is the best of them but you can try and compare. For me the canon FD 50mm f1.4 or the Minolta are better.

Now that you've shot with this combination do you see any difference in image quality when compared to native F mount lenses?

You are forgiven hehehe Nice tip for the vintage shooters. To be honest there are some jewels under older vintage Nikon primes too. Since those adapters really took off you can almost put anything on every camera you want and i.m.o. that is a great advantage (although older vintage lenses will not perform at their best on higher MP cameras but that's why there is a SL2 -S in Leica land") Thanks for sharing.

Hi Matt I just bought your Leica Q preset and I am very satisfied of them. Just one question I also bought a m240 and wondering something : I don t know the technical details of the sensors but the sensor of the Q and m240 seems very similar. May I use the presets for the Q on the m240 and vice versa or are they true ou different ? Thx in advance.

Hi Phil, yes you can use the Q presets on the M240. I plan to bring out new M240 presets when I find time as the existing ones are some of my oldest.

Hi, yes absolutely. You might want to adjust sharpness to taste for higher MP cameras but I mix and match my presets using various cameras.

Hmm, Will the adapted lens give focus confirmation reading on f100, f5 or f6 or digital nikons? I don't mind manually setting aperture but without a split prism I really need the focus confirmation feature on those cameras. Otherwise, I guess it could be reserved for a fm2n or fe.

Why would I spend L$ on a r lens (video people are inflating them so so much), when I have m glass, a M3, and FM2n and a suite of amazing Nikon glass? Seems like a non-starter for me, but nice to see it's possible, but I would take an F mount system over an R system everyday. My favorite conversion, and one that I use all the time, is adapting my Mamiya 645 glass to my Mamiya 35mm. The adapter costs more than the body of the 35 or many 645 lenses, but it really is a brilliant marriage. That is one of my dream combos that I've been using for years. Absolutely brilliant results. That being said, I would love to adapt my 105 2.5 F mount to my M, or my 90mm Elmar to my F, but that is just not possible. That is why I have both systems, but integration is cool AF.

Hi buy a m240 and you will be able to mount your 105mm - green eyes - f2.5 nikkor on a Leica for 20€ :)

M645 on 35mm. Interesting! Do you get the benefit when you only use the centre of the image circle. (I have nice M645 lenses + M645 Super) If you have a digital M you can use all these lenses via adapters and LiveView focusing.

@@MattOsborne-MrLeicaCom Yes, and you also get the benefit of amazing 645 glass. You do have to stop down meter, but most mamiya glass has a M-A switch on the lens, and if it's up to F8, it's pretty easy to focus without having to let in more light.

I have an adapter that allows me to mount my Leica M lenses on my micro 4/3 digital cameras. I have an adapter that allows me to mount my Leica M lenses on my APS-C Fuji X mirrorless digital cameras. I do not have an adapter that allows me to mount my Leica M lenses on my Nikon F cameras. However, since I only have three Leica M-mount lenses and I rarely mount those three lenses on my Fuji and my micro 4/3 digital cameras, I see no immediate need to mount those lenses on my Nikon F cameras.

Yes as you probably know you can adapter M glass to most mounts easily. To convert to F mount this is less simple. You need to replace the rear of the lens so it is more like a semi-permanent fix.

What about the aperture? Does it transmit its current value to the camera lightmeter? Does the aperture always close on turning the aperture ring or just on a shutter release? Honestly, this conversation does not make much sense to me because R cameras are very cheap for a Leica camera. I would not do that, but I use flashes very rarely. How do the Leica Lenses compare to the original Nikon lenses?

All good questions, I plan to do Nikon vs Leica lens photo test at some point. Aperture seems to work as normal (for an AI lens so I think stop down metering).. I will check the next time I use it.

I think that this was already possible at least 15 , if not 20 years ago ! Not sure which company provided the necessary material - but I knew that quite some Nikon shooters did this -- getting some Leica r-mount and replacing some parts and then coupling with the Nikon F-mount . Still not sure why you constantly showed the Summicron M-mount here --- that was never in contention I suppose !

I own that Leica 50mm F2 lens - not sure I would bother converting it to any of my Nikon bodies, because its really not all that remarkable of a lens. Nikon make plenty of excellent 50mm lenses.

Made this many years ago (a company in Spain made them) and honestly, it wasn't worth it. There were beautiful Zeiss lenses with Nikon mount which I should have choose instead. Especially with ROM lenses is a risk to damage the connectors. You also might by accident loosen the wrong screws etc

The title of this page is "Converting my Leica lens to Nikon mount'. One would expect to learn the "how" of it but not the way. However, the moderator spend a good part of the presentation extolling the virtue of convertion. The instrutions are full of serious deficiencies. Is was mention that the first problem encountered was the lens elements are off center then he proceeded to mount the R to AIS flange without saying a word about the off-center part of the lens without any comments on what to do before procding. Between tke off the R lens back plate and stalling the Nikon adopter plate, the is a shot that shows a curiously shaped but round plate. It is not known where it came from and what to do with it.

I had my nikon f black Apollo stolen with 4 lenses..and Metz flash. Whatever..demons among us..but..I just can't go back to film..whatever project or reason for capturing an image I want it same day...or now. Digital spoiled me...😢

I am old! I seen it all. Using Leica lenses on a great body, Nikon, is a waste of time! Leica lenses are delicate, dare not clean old ones! Are they sharper? Maybe. But flare a big risk on German lenses. You wan't same lens, look at Minolta! many of theirs are identical. same exact fluffing flare! If we believe it's better, we will strive to achieve! I've used Alpa, Canon, Pentax, Nikon, Minolta, Fuji, Rollei, Ricoh, .. and seen very small differences! What to LOOK for? If shooting Film, (loser) look for grain! Yup! Don't laugh. Only Morons laugh at facts. Some lenses make grain. I lived thru the T-Mount debacle. Why stunt your Nikon Z out sight technology, with primitive glass. Losing many options of modernity.. Don't waste your time!

Thanks for your views Jason! Agree some lenses have a smoother (less grain look), the 50 1.4 ASPH and Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.5 ASPH come to mine. I have cheap Minolta lenses too. I'll have to make a video sometime.
