Hemp will easily replace fossil fuels cotton and the timber industry in a year if people were more easily allowed to grow it whilst sucking in 20 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare grown. Jeremy should know that being a farmer the billion dollar crop 👍🏼🇬🇬

Off topic a little, but most modern farms are using Windmills and Dams to generate energy. A small pond and stream can generate a lot of electricity. At any rate, has there been any thought put into upgrading an Old Windmill with modern technology? I'd imagine 5 head of cattle and a wind mill outfitted with modern inventions like Ball Bearings, gear ratios on the 'drive shaft' etc... I wonder if you couldn't do something cool with that. They are called wind 'mills' because they were originally designed to mill oats. I'm saying they could again. Similar to those new Freight ships that employ Wind Sails to cut costs.

In all seriousness there are a lot of cyclists around. It would be simple and cost effective to attach a generator to a bike and charge a phone whilst cycling. Further more there are a lot of cyclists who train in the winter adding a like system to indoor cycling would be an effective means of charging a phone or laptop and getting a great workout at the same time.

I read an article where a guy claimed that if electricity continued to increase in cost, it would cost as much to charge an electric car as it would cost to run a petrol engined car. Electric cars are not being pushed in Australia. Maybe because people have the roof space for cheap solar panels and can charge cars for free. Nobody gets to charge any tax on that do they?

Presumably the electricity used by the Petrochemical industry will be substantially less if no petroleum or diesel is needed....that power can charge batteries instead...as EVs are much more efficient than Fossil-powered ones, less power will be needed....voila
@AleksandrStrizhevskiy
@AleksandrStrizhevskiy Жыл бұрын
Somewhere in there I am sure the math doesn't add up. For example, this assumes that we use as much energy to make fuel as we get out of the fuel, which is inaccurate. We put energy into processing oil into fuel, but we get vastly more energy out of that fuel. So there would still be a massive energy deficit even if we cut out the power used to run the petrochemical industry.
@williammillard687
@williammillard687 Жыл бұрын
@@AleksandrStrizhevskiy Some EV motors are nearly 100% efficient , a petrol/Diesel engine is about 20% efficient.....making liquid fuel is extremely energy intensive..making a car uses fairly similar amounts of energy whatever power train it utilises..we use 75-80% of the embodied energy in the fuel to make it and transport it. Where the electricity ‘comes from’ is actually a bigger CO2 issue than tail-pipe emissions....if it’s from a ‘renewable’ source then double yippee 🥳

I wonder how much electricty you could generate from a gym
@mino7122
@mino7122 Жыл бұрын
Sadly it's not much... i think an average human could give about 250W of power on for example a bike, so if you imagine 4 people biking in the gym for an hour, they would have generated 1kWh of energy. So a typical battery of an electric car has between 40 and 100 kWh capacity... Counting in all the power a gym needs (lights, power of treadmill etc) i think if we are lucky a gym could maybe just cover its own expenses of electricity... now given the complex and expensive devices needed to realise the generation of electricity with bikes in the gym i personally don't think that that would be very efficient. Sorry for my english, especially the technical words might not be correct as i'm not a native speeker :)

Obviously they always do hyperbole for the show, but I do want to point out that electric vehicles *at minimum* can cause little to no disruption to the grid, and *ideally* can actually significantly help with the load on the grid. During most of the day we are not using anywhere close to the maximum amount of power we need, but since it is very hard to store power we need to be able to generate that maximum peak all at one time right now. With electric vehicles they can be made to charge when the demand on the grid is very low, such as at night, where there is tons of extra capacity, and in an ideal world with a 'smart grid' they could be made to discharge power back into the grid during peak hours significantly helping to balance the load, particularly if they become very common place. With such technology it is also fairly trivial to make sure you still have a full battery when you want to go somewhere
