@@MSpencer1998starting on a racing block like that is for performance, starting standing is vastly inferior so it's not about saving time standing. Moving from a stop to a sprint is much different than maintaining a sprint, it requires much more leveraging of force to initially accelerate hence why it's more efficient at the start to use 4 contact points even though it'a more efficient to run the rest of the race upright.

Technically the swimming freestyle races allow any stroke type to be used it’s just that the front stroke is the fastest and so is the default for freestyle. In a world where quadruped running is common you could have two separate running categories: biped and freestyle

It’s cuz they don’t run properly like a true fast quadruped, it’s almost like they’re galloping. If you see how a cheetah or greyhound run, their feet touch each other at the middle then extend like a kite when they open up. That’s how a fast quadruped should be running, not bearwalking / running which is just gonna slow you down. And then finally we’ll be able to break the 9.00second threshold.

The best way to run is to not wear shoes. You run VERY differently barefoot. You use all of your joints and muscles, instead of just two joints per leg. You can push off harder. Build stronger feet that can run on anything. And you won't ever fear lego again. I swear it made me 2x as fast.

There was a magazine article in the 70's that said "by the year 2000, female runners will be faster than male runners", because female runners had been improving their times faster than men, slightly closing the gap between men and women's times, so the magazine just extrapolated the data from that. A great example of the dangers of simple extrapolation.

That would be devolution. Evolution isn't linear either, as conditions change so do the optimal adaptations. Now that we have superior understanding of the human body and the analytics to support it, we're changing the conditions. It might be a niche application depending on how hard it is to do effectively but it's still forward evolution

When i was a kid and used to play with my friends, when i ran and someone was about to catch me (or if we ever raced so far) i ran so fast but felt it was slow, so i used my hands too, and no one could ever catch me. Never knew i was the guy since my childhood. Proud of myself ❤

Here's the thing about bipedal running though. It doesn't matter if you are a little bit slower than a quadroped, becauase by using half as many legs, you use much less energy, and can run for a much longer time before collapsing from exhaustion. In the 100 meter dash, running on four limbs might be faster, but even a cheetah could never beat a human in a marathon.
