Good video! It might be pertinent to mention that the API 550A (and 550B) EQ has a “proportional Q”, with resonance responding variably to gain, so, the more a frequency is boosted, the narrower its Q gets. IMO, this is one of the reasons why the 550’s can have 2db increments in gain without needing the typical 1db increments found on other EQ’s, and why API EQ’s always sound so “punchy” and defined, while at the same time remaining so musical…and why one can boost frequencies in greater amounts on API EQ’s without lows sounding “boomy”, low-mids sounding muddy, mids sounding “honky”, or high-mids and highs sounding “harsh” or “brittle”. Like yourself, I’ve used real API gear many times over the years, and, I’ve tried a plethora of various plugin manufacturer’s API emulations, and (IMO) it wasn’t until I tried UAD’s range of API plugins that I FINALLY heard what the other plug manufacturers weren’t achieving and thought, “yup…there it is, that’s it, THERE’S the API sound that I remember hearing with real API hardware”. 😉🙏

The API Vision ch strip has become my favorite by UA. For rock it's the first insert (and a lot of times the only one) on every basic track for drums, bass and guitar.

I own all things API from UA. Load them into Luna, and it’s simply impossible to make it sound bad. Great video!

It was so hard to hear the bypassed/enabled samples as you were talking all over them. Just a tip for other videos, it would be awesome to hear the examples next to each other off/on/off/on etc. Looking forward to trying this on my distorted guitars.

Thers no rules so use your ears and not what people say. Bypass versus plug-ln on, hardly any difference. "You get so much rockn roll". Yeah, right....
