The Thanglings are 5 weeks old! This week we begin food training, out door adventures, more nail trims, and the pups learn to wrestle with Mama ThanggG!

Love that you're letting mama Thang still nurse/ care for the puppies. I see too many working dog people remove puppies from their dams at 4 weeks

and so many working dogs are reactive... yes they still need mom and they will be more stable when being with mom longer.

@@modernmalinois (obviously, feel free to ignore this question if you’re not comfortable discussing this 😊) do you have self-care and systems in place to help you avoid or manage burnout? i like how you give the puppy comfort that has "his moments". yes they need a dad to contain their own feelings. as you can hold him, he himself will be soon able to do it.
@modernmalinoisАй бұрын
Yep! Comforting them when they have their moments now will allow them to regulate themselves better later.
@ChiefHerzensCoachАй бұрын
@@modernmalinois absolutely - same with human babies. if there is an adult around who can contain their feelings they will learn to selfregulate as well as the adult around does (or does not - then we have reactive dogs - and children... brains are not the same in humans and dogs, but nerves are... ) 🙂 there is a german dog trainer who shows this with even adult dogs like caucasian shepherds, kangals and such. she is a hell of a woman. no violence but absolute training of self regulation and social behaviour with fences in between the dogs in the beginning but creating situations in small steps where agressive and reactive dogs with bodyweights heigher than herself experience social interaction as soothing and beautifull. she rescues these dogs and also lives with a dozen of them (!!!!!) in her and her husbands house. husband is also dedicated to this kind of work with the dogs. her name is mirjam cordt.
@hajarmdn4883Ай бұрын
@@ChiefHerzensCoachthat’s why the cry it out method some parents use on babies is really bad for their development. Comforting your baby whenever it’s crying, baby wearing and even co-sleeping once it’s safe won’t raise spoiled kids but kids with good attachment style

Goddamn. The head start you're giving these pups is absolutely incredible! I feel like if my Mal had that kind of a head start, especially on the desensitization, he wouldn't have such a fear problem right now at 10 months old. But we've put in a TON of work and it's finally getting noticeably better! 😊
@modernmalinoisАй бұрын
Glad your mal has someone to help them through it! And yeah for us socialization and being able to exist happily in the human world is always a higher priority than their training.
@brendad7559Ай бұрын
He may also be going through a "fear period" usually 3/6/9/12/18 months they go through little periods where they're afraid. ALL dogs do. They don't last, as long as you don't make big issues out of whatever they're being afraid of and don't coddle them. Of course, the time frames 3/6/9, etc, aren't set in stone because every dog is an individual.
@Alea-ye5koАй бұрын
Do you have video or book recommendations for this issue? Mine was a rescued when she's about 5 months old, and because I live alone in a quiet residence area and have no car, she became more frightened with a lot of things, most notably vehicle's loud noise & big size. That makes it hard to take her for a walk, or going to vet. She's almost 2 now, and I hardly find training video for this type of pups@@brendad7559

I finished my education recently as a dog training instructor and behaviour analysis, I’d love it if you would show how you start out training puppies to do bite work, as I see a lot of IGP trainers use the «tear/pull» section of hunting play behaviour to teach bite work, while I notice your dogs are in «kill» mode, I’d love to see you make a video about how you avoid the dogs using their other instincts and using positive reinforcement from the start to teach them this.
