What? No Ghostbusters fans at Screen Crush? Where's the Recap/Timeline video? Since the fourth film coming out in a few days is finally covering the plot point which for over a decade was the working concept intended to be the 3rd movie, the concept reworked into the fan loved Video Game, and is an aspect of the IDW Comic's Prime Ghostbusters' dimension.... the idea of establishing newer Ghostbusters teams. (Not to menion, like Marvel Comics... the IDW Ghostbusters comics did its Spider-Verse in recent years too.)

There technically was no "Phoenix Saga" in the comics. That was something that the 90s cartoon invented. I mean, the comic storyline with the Shi'ar and the M'Kraan Crystal was not called the "Phoenix Saga", and it wasn't a Jean/Phoenix-centric story. Jean/Phoenix barely appears in it. So the Phoenix Saga is basically non-canon.

@@agentofchaos7456 Understood, but tell the Marvel TPB people that :) I mean, there technically was no FF Wolfman/Pollard/Byrne/Sinnott 1978-1980 "In Search of Galactus" story, but there it is.

I´m from Uruguay and the series took a few years to reach us, I think I was 10 so around 1997. It completely blew my mind. I was already quite into comics and was more than aware of the X-Men so that was part of the excitement, to have a cartoon show about something I already liked a lot, but the main thing was that it expanded my capability of assimilating fiction and storytelling, it wasn´t just about having a good time watching cartoons, I felt involved with the story and committed to keep following it. It also helped raise dinner table conversations at home (my mom loved it just as much as me) that were very formative of my worldview and general culture at a time when most kids are not expected to have either... I´m thrilled with this revival, it really hits home.

MISTAKE @ 19:35 - Lenore Zann, who voiced and continues to voice Rogue, is the ex-politician (in Canada). She's a former member of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. The voice actress who played Jean Grey in the original animated series is Catherine Disher. Disher's back, but isn't playing Jean. She's voicing Val Cooper. Jean Grey is being voiced in X-Men '97 by Jennifer Hale---a fine veteran voice actress in her own right. Interesting side note: Catherine Disher's ex-husband is Cedric Smith---the man who voiced Professor Xavier in the original series. Cedric Smith is still active, but isn't back for the revival series to play Professor X. Ross Marquand is taking over that role (the same man who played the Red Skull in "Avengers: Infinity War" & "Avengers: Endgame").

I had heard the reason Wolverine got an Australian accent was because a script or comic had an interaction with Pyro where Wolverine makes an Australian reference and then folks at the show interpreted that as him being Australian when really he was saying it because Pyro was.
@KouriRyu

I have a theory why Wolverine is so popular: Because Fox was cheap and outsourced the cartoon to Canada which is what led the creators to choose a C-lister in their main lineup just because he would be there to represent Canada. The 90s were such a huge surge for antiheroes so it could have been anyone. Cable, Bishop, even Gambit... But Wolverine was always front and center with the practically forced love triangle that never existed in the comics. The 90s X-Men changed all of Marvel properties moving forward just like the 90s Batman changed all of DC. All because Fox was cheap and the stars just happened to align. : D

Correction. Rogues voice actor served in Canadian parliament, not Jean grey. Also, the VO for Jean grey is returning but will not be voicing jean grey. Not sure why, but I'm guessing with the passing of cyclops original vo, she may have stepped down out of respect or just feeling odd to voice lines against someone else.

Fun Fact: The actors who voiced Xavier and Grey in the 90s series used to be married. He’s not returning, and like you said, she’s voicing a different character. Also, Lenore Zann (the voice of Rogue) lost her seat in 2021.

I wasn't really a comic book reader, though I did read them occasionally. Most of what I knew about DC and Marvel characters came from the animated series I watched, beginning with the 1960s Spider-Man cartoon series, the Filmation Superman series, and the Hanna Barbera Superfriends. I also really loved the Adam West live-action Batman, but that almost goes without saying for a kid growing up in the 1970s. I was 24 when X-Men debuted on TV, but I watched every episode. That show was where I learned everything I knew about the X-Men and was the reason I was so interested in the live-action movies.

We just rewatched the original animated X men series on Disney+ in preparation for X Men 97. Despite the inconsistancies of the animation, the storytelling & character development is solid. We actually taped this show, WB Batman & Gargoyles so we could watch it since it was on in the afternoons/Sat mornings. So happy to be able to watch all these shows via streaming now & can finally let those old VHS copies go 😮 Tried watching X Men Evolution but can't quite get passed all the mutants being teenagers & going to the same high school. Wut? It also dealt with social issues but feels very pre teen by design. I wish Marvel would consider more animated versions of their stories since What If seems to be their most liked TV show. And c'mon Disney, you are known (or were) for your groundbreaking animation. Seems like a no-brainer.

I have collected Xmen since the early 80s. I was excited when they launched the new Xmen titles in comics. Jim Lees art really solidified their looks. Their message resonated with me. I picked my future employment based on protecting those that hate and fear us. I even named one of my kids after an X-man. Any non-comic iteration is tough for me as they miss the nuance to these deep and rich characters. The animated series was the only one that truly allowed for character growth and depth to these classic characters.

I binged the Animated Series over the past few weeks, finished it today. The first 4 seasons have really held up in their story telling and acting. The art is often great, the animation is not always great unfortunately. I was surprised how many scenes were borrowed by the later live-action films. I was surprised also by the complex time-travel scenarios and multiple futures. The continuity and multiple-episode arcs are all very satisfying to watch. I already remembered how the topics were often on the mature side while keeping a kid-friendly format. Slice dem robots and walls, Wolverine. All this being said, I'm afraid to watch the new one for fear it is ruined!

I, personally, would have loved to have seen Magneto explain that he would never before hurt Wolverine in such a way simply out of gratitude. When Magneto was a boy, Wolverine fought the men who caged him, and murdered his family. And Wolverine would continue on fighting such people all his life. It’s worth remembering that Wolverine is also Magneto’s elder by generations. Magneto feels a kinship with all mutants, but Wolverine he personally admires as a hero. I would have liked that angle anyway.

I remember the 2 part opener so well because I had a VHS tape and watched it a bunch. (Just like I watched the Pryde of X-Men VHS a lot. I like that animation style, too bad it didn't get picked up).

I bought a bootleg VHS of Pride of the X-Men at a comic shop in 1990. Good times!

As a teenager in the 90s, I understood the darkness of the animated series.

I'd argue that it was X-men that allowed them to stay afloat... it was actually Blade that let Marvel know their movies could be successful.

That's a really interesting story, I didn't know the 1992 series was the reason why FOX decided to make the original X-Men trilogy. It's so weird to think that Kevin Feige essentially owes his career to a cartoon.

It'd be awesome to see the Marvels post credits scene animated in the X-Men '97 show, showing how the universes connect.

Odd to think there's 16 years between the X-Men cartoon premiere and Iron Man, and it's now been 16 years since Iron Man...I feel like there was a monumental shift back then that we haven't seen on this side of the MCU

I was a diehard DC aficionado until the X-Men series introduced me to adult storytelling in the comic universe. It took Frank Miller’s “Dark Knight” series to bring me back to DC. 😎

I absolutely loved the show. I didn't watch it quite as religiously as I did Spider-Man though. The cross over episodes blew my frickin mind!

I love the history lesson on the xmen 97 show but to say it saved Marvel is a stretch when Kevin stated it was Blade that saved Marvel and gave studios the belief in "real world" comic stories and heroes.
