Thank you, George. I have always had problems with shadows. I have done this video a couple of times and must say it is the best technique I have seen. I really appreciate the explanations given along the way.

George! I'm a retired scientist and amateur travel photographer who has been using PSE for 10 years. Since I discovered your tutorials a month ago my skills have jumped up considerably! Bravo! Not too simple or too complex. And just the right pace. Please show how to undo a section or the last point (using polygon lasso tool) when making a complex selection.
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 4 ай бұрын
You can use the Delete key to backup in the point placement while you are making the selection. Or if you have already closed the selection you can set the selection tool to subtrack and make a new selection cutting away part of the existing selection. And check out my new photo channel where all of my new PSE videos are going up www.youtube.com/@HTGPhoto

I agree totally with what everyone else has said. This whole tutorial was so instructive, not just how to create the shadow, but how one should do it properly so that the effect is spot on. Many thanks once again, George.

Hi Peter, and you're welcome! Shadows can be tricky and the only way to get a really accurate shadow is to use a 3D modeling program but as I demonstrated in this video there are a few things that can help you get closer to reality. Of course we really are not dealing with reality and sometimes putting the shadow in the wrong spot or changing the shadow can add a lot to an image, I have a video about that coming out soon. George

George, thank you sir! You cleared up a lot of confusion on my end involving shadows! Your technique is easy and very realistic. Shadows are as important as the subject because it is a key component in selling your composition. There are many interpretations of shadows making on KZfaq but yours is the best because it offers consistency and control. Thank you for all you do! Rich

You're welcome Rich, this is one of those things that is easier in Adobe Photoshop although most videos I looked at for Photoshop also got it wrong. There is a great tool recent in Photoshop CC that allows you to do the softening and fade out of the blur and shadow all in one step, but I only saw one person using it and he still started with the Layer Style and got the Perspective wrong. Oh well. George
@MrMoonpie001
@MrMoonpie001 6 жыл бұрын
Perspective is the key to all of this. I think people get the idea mixed up because when a shadow hits us it often seems much larger but this is not the same as a perspective when you are look at a picture or an object that is not on us rather it is part of the visual experience away from us. Thanks Rich
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 6 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Rich, perspective can be tricky if you don't understand the principle, but even if our eyes say it looks right at first glance you can't really fool the brain and it will just not feel right if the perspective is off. George

I learned a lot from this video. You show clearly how to make a realistic shadow. But I really hate that radial blur tool. When I try to scroll to the lower left corner, I just keep scrolling and scrolling, never reaching the end. How do I know when I'm actually in the lower left corner of the page?
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Johnny, on the scrolling you just have to eyeball that.
