Just come back to this one after seeing your most recent equivalent work on Photoshop. Again it shows the power of using layers and layer masks. This actually looked a little easier to do than the PS one, maybe because the image lends itself too easier adaption.

Love your videos. How do I resize anything without using the handles. I have a lot of shaking with my hands and it would be nice if I could use a key shortcut to resize them. Sorta like increasing the size of brushes using the bracket keys. HELP
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 2 жыл бұрын
Actually there is a way. First make a duplicate of the layer you want to resize just in case. Hide the original and resize the duplicate. Now use the ctrl+t keyboard shortcut to bring up the control handles and make sure that the Options panel is showing at the bottom of the window. Now just click into the W or H field and use the up and down arrows to step that size number up or down.

HI George...I just upgraded from elements 12 to 2019. My question is this. Do I need to adjust the floating panel in the new version so I can Import images from floating dock to superimpose, lock layers, ect, or to work on two or more images in the palette, or work space. Could you refresh again on how to do that? I can't seem to locate that procedure again to test. Thank you!

Hi Gary, each time you upgrade the Photoshop Elements program will be reset to the default settings. So you will need to change the settings again to have the floating windows. Luckily I did a video about that kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jphmesRlz5qzaas.html George

Hi George, What is the best way to resize the mega pixels of an image to fit a submission. Say, a image of 300 mg, convert to 5 mg. I'm assuming use the image, resize, image size. Type in the new pixel conversion, which would be 4500x3000. Do I only have to do one entry, either vertical, or horozontal, if the constrain proportions is checked? I always get confused on this one. I am using Elements 2019. Is it always best to keep the constrain proportions checked? Is it best to keep the resampling box checked? Always adjust your resolutions last?
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, yes, always keep constrain proportions checked. With that you only need to enter in one of the numbers. If you uncheck that then the image could get stretched in one dimension. The image will always be resampled if you change the settings, but take a look at the drop down list and choose the setting there that will give the best results. You may want to test the different settings to see how they work with your photos and use the best one.
@garyfleming4811

Thanks George. I think where I am getting confused is which box to enter the new wanted size pixels in, the top one which is registering the current size, or the lower one that is document size. I tried something new today in my efforts to figure it out on my own. I entered the resolution and desired size in the top one, hit ok, and it changed the size of the image. Is that method ok?. (Elements 2019 ) I am confused by the conversions of the lower document box offers, no pixels listed. Inches, and others. If it seems like you want to convert the size pixels, you would type in just one number in the top box, seems to work. I guess the same for canvas resize? Which is best to choose for when you do a jpeg -baseline, baseline optimized, or progressive?

@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 3 жыл бұрын
@@godaddy365xx2 It depends on the photo, if your ex-wife is completely behind you like the girl in this project, and if the background is usable then removing her from the photo can work. If she is in front of you then it can't be done. If your new girl friend is in basically the same position and lighting as your removed ex then you should be able to cut out your girlfriend from her photo and add that as a new layer behind you in the original photo. Again, it can be done but it really depends on the photos more than the technique. It is actually hard to find photos that it would work with unless the photos were planned for that from the start.

Don't know if you track comments of older videos, but I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do this procedure. In the freeware gimp image editor, you can simply apply a mask and erase the mask over the object you want to keep and you can zoom into the exact pixel you want to leave or erase the mask to make your selection from the mask. That seems way more granular and easier to make a much more higher resolution selection than hoping that you draw a line that surrounds exactly what you need in your selection. Does PSE have this "selection from mask" type of feature? And, if so, why not use that?
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, I respond to all comments, no matter how old the video. On removing people, you can do a mask then do a selection from mask in PSE as you outline, but the method shown in this video will give you better results and it is faster than painting in a mask at pixel level. But, really, what works best is which ever way you are most comfortable with. There are several ways to approach any project in Photoshop Elements and even more ways to do things in Adobe Photoshop. I only show the way that I find works best for me. BTW I will be adding in some Gimp videos and projects to my channel later this summer. George

HI Goerge... I am trying to place one image (layer) over another in the loading dock workplace, and then use the opacity tool to make a "ghost" image, but I can't get it to work. What am I doing wrong? How do i make this work? i am using Photoshop Elements 2019.

Hi Gary, here are two videos on how to do ghost effects: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ibiiYLKgqq_bmWw.html and kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j62Chd2ludmbeH0.html. But the basic answer is that you need to have both images as separate layers in the same file. That is shown in both of these videos. George

HI George! I have a question. I am trying to do what you do in your replace background, or move a layer image over another in the docking panel. I understand bringing both up in the docking panel. I understand how to drag from the layers panel over (drag and drop) onto the background layer, but when I do that, it always brings the layer to be dropped in such a high magnification that I can't use it, as it also has magnified the background layer. I seem to remember something about the place command having something to do with that, but I've tried various combinations, to no avail. Is there a way to mark it with place command, rather than bringing it up in the files in your computer, to load to the organizer? If I have forgotten to name the file, I can't bring it up and out, so I either get lucky, or do search history, or I lose the image. I will be sure to name all images from now on. How do you use or what is the best sequence to use the place command?
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, sounds like the file ou are bringing in is either at a larger size or a higher resolution than your working file. This can happen if you have a file open that is at 72ppi and then you try to bring in an image at 300ppi, it will come in at about 4 times the size you expect. The Place command resizes the image to fit as it is brought in. Go to File/Place and then navigate to the file on your hard drive. I almost never use the Organizer as I prefer to organize my images by folder on my hard drive. Here is a video talking about size and resolution differences in files: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l7CPqrycl7HYo5c.html

Hi George, I guess also, what do I do if I find one of my images on a particular art on-line gallery sit?. I can't submit my work on all of them first, in order to protect myself. It is the main sites I am concerned with. I know you said there is really no way to protect yourself from pirating, and I know I can contact the site, but any other advise? I'm thinking if someone photographed my image from say a product, from companies like Cafe Press, and then tried to submit it to a gallery. I'm talking about having the actual product in hand, and then photographing it. I know the company pages use watermarks and low-res.

Unfortunately there is no way to protect 100% against your images being used without your permission. This past year someone used my bank account without my permission and you will never get an online image to have the kinds of protections that banks have (was able to catch it in time, so no great damage). Take a look at the service I recommended in the other response and carefully consider the actual $ value of your images, is it worth the time and money to protect them to that level? If the images have an actual large value then the best bet is to keep time stamped copies but you should already have those and then if possible work through an online paid image site that takes care of a lot of the image protection needs.

@@HTGGeorge Thanks George. I know that when you create a file copy of your image, it is dated, although I do not have a clue on how to retrieve that for a lawyer. Is there an actual way to manually time stamp a copy of your image, like the type tool?

@@garyfleming4811 Open a file in Photoshop Elements, go to the File menu, click on File Info, and in that dialog box click on the Basic tab at the top. You will see the creation date in that window. Putting the time on by using adding text would not hold up in court since you could put any date you wanted there. You need the one that is imbedded in the file.

Hi George, I am confused about the selection and clone stamp tool. I open with a photo, Select the area to be protected, select the clone stamp tool, the clone stamp tool will not clone in the area outside the protected area, I can Inverse the selection and it clones in the area outside the protected area. From the videos that I have watched, this is not correct. The photo is a PDF. What am I doing wrong? I have watched multiple of your videos and still can't pick up on it. Also. this is a different issue. sometimes when I open up a file, new or otherwise, place a photo in the file, a picture is not always displayed in the layers panel. How do I place a photo in the layer panel after a photo is in the file and not shown in the layer panel? Can you suggest one or more of your very informative videos that will help me? I purchased your online course and haven't found the answers there either.
@HTGGeorge
@HTGGeorge 2 жыл бұрын
HI James, when you make a selection that isn't a protected area, the area outside the selection is protected. You can paint, clone, edit the area inside the selection. Basically you are selecting an area that you want to work on. With images and layers. When you have one project open in PSE and you open another image, that new image comes in as a new project, it doesn't automatically get placed into the current project. If you want the new image to go directly into the current project then use the Place option in the File menu instead of Open. This will place the new image into a new layer in the currently open project. Or you can always just drag and drop from one project to another. Take a look at this recent video where I did that kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJ-Zapufp5mdppc.html

@@HTGGeorge Hi George, I watched your video "How You Can Remove a Person or Object From a Photo in Photoshop Elements". I followed the video very closely by using the same photo and duplicating your moves. I found that my problem with the Clone Stamp Tool is, as usual, self-inflicted. I found that it is all in the Layers, by creating a Layer Mask on Background Copy 1 and creating a Background Copy 2 Layer. By doing this, I was able to follow your keystrokes and had similar results. Thanks for your quick reply and the link to the other video. Both videos were a great help. Hi Eileen, Photoshop Elements 2019 was just released today so I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. I will be purchasing the upgrade next week but from what I have read in today's news post from Adobe the new version really doesn't have anything new that I would care about. They list some new automated features, which I never use anyway, they've updated the starting screen which I always bypass. Most everything looks like stuff is already in the program, like calendars and cards. The one thing I see that appears to be truly new is their Adobe Sensei graphics engine, will have to compare that with older versions to see if there is an improvement. In any case I will be getting PSE 2019 next week and I will try to do a new feature video by the end of the week. As always of course I will be switching to the newest version whether I like it or not and you can expect a new complete training course on PSE 2019 before the end of the year. George
