I mean if you want to maximise suspense, "You know how he accidentally saw that one horror movie as a child? let's just make a dream where he is just walking around but sees the main villain everywhere he looks." "What does the villain do?" "Nothing, he just stands there. Menacingly. Should keep things going for a while." "But what about the scenery?" "Just his commute on repeat. He does it so often he won't even question why he is just going back and forth from school for 4 hours straight."

"Jump scares are a classic, but it's played out. We have to innovate. Psychological horror is where it's at. Leave a lasting impact AFTER they wake up" "But how do we do that?" "We go Meta" "As in the Metaverse?" "No no, that's much too confusing a scary. I'm talking we break the fourth wall, tell them they should wake up soon" "Ohh, and something is chasing them, we don't know what but something. Yeah that'll get them good!"

@@foilarmsandhog in my head Paul and the other guy work together... so it's always extra weird for me when something absurd happens and I had actually dreamt it ... the feeling I get is profoundly unsettling. Like one time I dreamed my cat escaped from her leash into some brambles near a castle and Vlad the Impaler was there ( he looked like Luke Evans) and all my dead turkish ancestors and then my cat was rotting with maggots and I picked up her body and it fell apart... later that summer I had to bury a dead stray cat and my cat did get off her leash near a restored citadel (that looked exactly like the one from my dream, but I had never been there or seen it before) and I tried to stay calm and managed to find her in the brambles... did get some cuts from them though.... just like in the dream.

Foil, Arms, & Hog: the men of our dreams! 🤣 These "three brain cells" sketches are always enjoyable. If it were up to me, I'd put this one into the year's top 10 sketches - it's funny, clever, (somewhat) relatable, brilliantly acted, beautifully lit, with a charming plot twist, AND it could be seen as a satire on modern entertainment media. Perhaps it's also a self-parody? "We come in, make up some wild sh*t, then we leave" - is this your plan for the Hogwash show, lads? 😉 "This is a job for life" - your FAHns hope so! 😊

@@foilarmsandhog FAH - don't know if you'll see this. Here it is in case you do / if helpful. Serious brain science dream hacking techniques here: 1) for anxiety, do a brain dump in the evening - writing down all the stuff you need to do and make an action plan and to do list especially for the next day. This gets out of your head all the things you're worried you might forget. 2) in the evening, write down and do a self review of how the day went and what and how you can improve the next day, etc. Overnight your subconscious brain will work on how to improve those things and the next day. 3) for problems you're having trouble finding solutions for, write them down and what outcomes you want. Overnight your subconscious brain will work on figuring out a solution. (I literally have found things I've misplaced this way). 4) for unpleasant disturbing recurring dreams / nightmares, before bed, focus on your dreams, goals, to do list for the next day and what outcomes you want. Also, confront the meaning and or content of the recurring dream and figure out what you need to do to prevent it from actually happening and decide to and picture yourself doing that. Decide and vividly visualize what you want instead. Picture yourself saying no to and erasing the landscape of the bad dream and creating the one you want instead. Even meditate on the images and reality you want to bring to life instead. Reali life goals and dreams work for this too. This is a brain re-programming technique that many people have been successful with in getting rid of defeating, depressing and bad recurring dreams. Some other things that help - excercise and excercise that includes some cardio and stretching but also weight lifting / resistance training. This can increase the neurotransmitter Gaba in the brain. A healthy happy chemical. Also, following a consistent bedtime routine, taking a hot bath before bed, drinking a hot cup of decaf herbal tea, chamomile or just hot water. Some supplements that can help with sleep: taking 3-5mg melatonin, 3-400mg magnesium glycinate or other form (research the forms they do different things and absorb differently), HTP, and or 150-400mg ashwaghanda herbal supplement adaptogen.

It's one of the most original insights into how dreams really work. As a cognitive linguist I might add that there's always some overlap between literal and metaphorical meanings in dream images. Speaking of metaphors, do we now have a back door glimpse of how you're actually writing your shows? Arms, you're always playing a scientist-sceptic vs two happy-go-luckies?))

I'd love to see more of this dynamic (Arms pitted against a Foil & Hog team) in Hogwash, Swines had a lot of Foil Vs Arms & Hog! So much so that Foil even commented on it once on stage, after A&H were messing with a sketch a little too much ...
