£8299/£10,000 Raised so far! Today we invite you to donate 100% directly to them: www.versestories.org/pagpag and provide Marjorie and Tasyana's family with a better job, a better home, and a much better future.
Thanks to your support so far, their lives have been completely transformed: • Now living their dream...
New story: Living under a bridge, how this grandma struggles to survive with three children.
• Living under a bridge,...
Full story: www.versestories.org/pagpag
100% of your donation will go to Marjorie & Tasyana, and we’ll film the difference made in our “Impact Stories” showing you the impact your donation made.
With more than 600,000 people live in Manila's slum district of Tondo, the worst of the conditions can be found at Tondo's 'Happyland' BRGY105 where the population has grown from around 3,500 in 2006 to more than 12,000 today.
Marjorie and Tasyana are two single mothers who for the last 12 years have lived there. Spending each day going through McDonalds leftovers to survive. Recooking and selling what is locally known in the slum as Pagpag a dish made from bits of meat found in the trash.
They sell the recooked food to hungry families in the slums for 30p per bag. Earning around £3 per day, they both face the daily struggle to try and put their children through education as well as trying to survive in their one room shack with no shower and no bed.
Marjorie wants to provide her children with an education so when she is no longer here, they will at least have the foundations of knowledge to hopefully leave Happyland behind.
We came across their harrowing story whilst visiting the slum in Tondo recently. Cautious at first, they decided to let us into their lives, and it quickly became clear that the issues they faced went beyond earning money. Poverty, severe malnutrition and disease is an everyday reality for Marjorie and Tasyana's family.
Together, we can provide both families with a new home to live in, beds to sleep in and give their children an education that will support them with a new future so can leave Happyland once and for good.

Millions of views from around the world is something our small channel never expected and while we have much to be proud of in this, it’s not the most important measure of our success. Over 300 of you have donated to change Marjorie and Tasyana’s lives, and we’ve already set to work with them both. The follow up story will be released this month, showing you all the incredible difference each of you have made. We truly thank you for believing in a world where everyone can help anyone. Like “I’m glad at least I’m not like them” Being grateful is definitely important but I think what we should do when seeing people in situations like this is think of ways to reach out and help people in need when we can. Cause being grateful that you’re not them isn’t doing anything at all for anyone. If anything this should be a wake up call to help.

@@vacationboyvideos Being grateful for everything in your life doesn't necessarily mean you've to be frugal. You just don't have to simply take what you have so far for granted. For example, when you're having a hard time, remember that there's also people who're facing a lot worse of situation than you out there. Such as when you have trouble at workplace or refuse to eat what you had on the table just because it's not your favorite food, take a moment to think that there's still people out there rummage through the trash just to make ends meet, some even ate and feed their children with grass to keep in their hunger.

When my Mexican grandma came to visit the US, we took her to McDonald’s. We had leftover fries, and for dinner she recooked them in Chile sauce and beef. Of course, fries get stick hard, but she was so worried about wasting leftovers. 😭

That's a really heartwarming story. She's right, ideally no one should be wasting food when there are so many people out there desperate for something to eat. May Allah/God bless your grandma.

I live in the Philippines and this hits so close. I mean, im also affected with poverty (most of us are) but Im lucky to be able to eat three proper meals a day, a decent roof over my head, and be able to study without worrying much about fees. Yet, I take things for granted and live a life of indolence. Nobody should live like this. I'll actually try harder this time and when I turn out okay in life, I'll do my best to participate in charities and change the lives of my fellows even in my little ways. Ill make this an inspiration. Laban lang mga kababayan, walang susuko. :(

This is heartbreaking! I wish i was in a situation to help. It seems so unfair how so many people "live a lap of luxury" beacuse of their wealth and are so wasteful and people with hardly anything try to make resources out of the waste. Just so sad. This lady is only trying to be able to live and feed her family. So selfless. Very humbling and makes you be more grateful for what you do have. I wish her the best.

My mom is mexican. She grew up poor and she also taught us not to waste food. Many times we don't value things until we have to live without them. We were pretty poor too but not as bad. Maybe that's why the lesson stuck.

I can't believe I'm seeing this. I'm sitting in the comfort of my home in Kerrville ,Texas and I feel ashamed of my self. The trash those children are playing in and eating breaks me down to emotions I never knew I had before. My god what have we done? We are not animals nor should we be denied basic needs. Children born into a dead end future will only repeat what they have lived and learned. No human or animal should ever starve period. I will never discard any unwanted food again. Appreciation was well learned by this man today.
