I love zero G planes. You feel like you're floating but you're actually free-falling. The plane you're in is plummeting towards the earth at a 42 degree nosedive...
Here's a longer video I made that you might like. This one is about the JWST: • How the James Webb Tel...

It has to be elliptic bc that's the free fall trajectory. It's just that you need to start and end with a steep path for the plane to be able to take off, reach a safe altitude and land without killing everyone on board.

@ifriccicle1301 man, you're not gonna have 200 people packed in the plane like normal, so they charge individuals more, especially because there's slightly more risk involved and it's mainly a novelty thing. If you don't have time or money to spend on such things, it's better to ignore these things.
@miladragon

@iFriccicle except for the part where there's like only ten people on it, so you can't spread the fixed costs out to over a hundred people. Big planes are expensive to operate for really any amount of time

@@rapid___ So there's a few questions to be asked. Size of plane? Duration of flight? I'm betting it's a smaller plane and a shorter flight. The zero-g plane (vomit comet) is a big plane, not a dinky cesna and the flights are quite long, to provide enough time in zero-g for experiments/training/filming. Another thing to consider is that the plane has been specially adapted and the flight staff (pilots and assistants) have been trained to work in zero-g (and not puke) all of that adds expense.

@Benny Mackney imo it was kinda ambiguous. When she drew the parabola, she actually showed that you're weightless around the "tip" of the parabola. When that animated plane came up, the timing was a little off and it sounded like she was saying you're weightless in the third phase

@@Leo1239150Yeah plus she said they're hurtling at the 42 degree nosedive which only true at the very end which seems pedantic of me to point out but it reinforces the common misconception. The timing of the diagram is weird cause its correctly partitioned i wonder if someone else did the editing.

The middle part which she emphasizes is indeed parabolic and it has to be. Since earth's gravitational force is constant, your speed will increase linearly during freefall and hence the (vertical) distance from the apex will increase quadratically. The plane has to follow a parabola to match that motion and simulate 0g.

When the plane is going up in that parabola, the excessive gravity fase stays initially and then even while the plane is going up, zero gravity (close to zero) kicks in. Throw a bottle of water in the air and observe the water carefully, you’ll know what i mean. Basically you can think of the bottle as the plane and the water as the passengers.
