In this episode I go through the Howard explaining differences between a Harley Davidson. We also gap the rings and get the engine ready to be balanced before assembly!

I used to run Toyota 5 speed gearboxes in my small block falcons years ago and used those type of bearings on the input shaft and the front of the lay shaft to strengthen the box they never let me down and lasted years. We have a great bearing supplier for bearings like superblend ones for triumphs and Norton cranks in Ch-ch NZ

I might have to give them a go in the future! Machining bearing adapters like these are time consuming!

Wow that flew over because it was really interesting. Your machining skills are spot on. Regarding the hardening of your bush it may pay to temper it back to stop it fracturing . Cheers Richie 🇬🇧

I didn’t make it that hard! I’m not worried about it fracturing! I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t soft and crush under the load!

Hi Phil, as you know I have been working on these engines since 1980. These engines are 1264cc or 77 cu inch. The reason the flywheel is lighter than a 1340 is because they had an external cooling impeller which you must replace. If those metric bearings are not as good as Timkin or RHP, they will get smashed and remember the conrods are very weak and will snap if over reved. The right bearing should be a roller MRJA 1 1/8". Correct piston clearance is .005" and ring gaps are .018". I'll keep following your build and you can email me if you need more info.

I recently saw a parts Howard v twin engine on marketplace around that $500. The engine is making great progress, can’t wait to see it finished and running.
