Former Starbucks Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz details his personal journey from growing up in public housing in Brooklyn, to his decades long career at Starbucks, and now his potential bid for the White House. He reveals why he is seriously considering running as an Independent in the 2020 presidential election, shares his vision for America, and offers a candid take on President Trump and the state of the union today.

The people who say he does not have a chance are the same folks who laughed at Trump throughout the entire 2016 election. As someone who is tired of both the republicans and the democrats I think Howard Schultz is a breath of fresh air.

@@youregoddamnright Because he and his billionaire friends employ the entire country. When the President gave tax breaks to EVERYONE, over 85% of the industries and big companies used the tax breaks and de regulation to hire more workers and invest in new technologies. That is one of the reasons that we are now enjoying the most powerful economy in history, and unemployment is at a historical all time low. Taking jabs at the wealthy and influential just because they have more than you is juvenile and asinine. High taxes on the rich simply means they move their "markers" to Mexico. That means ALL the jobs. Yours included.

@@benatkinson5071 You are actually incorrect that most Americans are centrist. While it is true that 40% of the country now identify as independents, most of them are not actually centrists. They simply just don't like being labeled. Most people are either democrat or republican, or at least lean that way. Very few are actually right in the middle. I also disagree with you that Bush and Cheney were far right. Someone like Ted Cruz or Mike Lee would be considered far right. Bush was more of a moderate Republican whom was certainly less conservative than Reagan. Not even Trump is far right. While conservative when it comes to taxes and immigration, he is very liberal when it comes to trade and foreign policy. Schultz on the other hand is a moderate democrat who really is not much different than Obama or Joe Biden. He just fears the far left loons that are running as democrats.

Howard, I'm supportive of you, but I have an FYI or you --- Trump is against ILLEGAL immigration, he is not against immigrants. The man's WIFE is a legal immigrant. And we let 1 million people into the country legally each year --- Trump is not in any way talking about that as being a problem.

The media is particularly the main problem when it comes to Independent candidates. Sure the media gives some attention the Independents, but the headlines are always about the Democratic or Republican candidates over and over again. The only way that Independents stand a chance is when the media starts giving them the amount of attention and publicity that they need. They also need to be trusted more, rather than questioned over and over again. As it stands today however, no chance an Independent candidate wins.

Sounds like a very reasonable platform, and the fact that reasonable scares the daylights out of people on one side, and the other side has a 30% approval rating, I think now is the time for a fact based centrist that will work with both sides from the middle with no massive entrenched political responsibility to the party. Because even if you don't think centrist solutions go far enough, you must agree that they are the only possible chance people on either side have of agreeing on solutions.

Donald Trump isn't extreme right at all, not many people are, not many people are extreme left either but the extreme left has alot more power than the extreme left like in schools ect.

How about Medicaid for all those who make under 50,000? Then if you make 50,000-75,000 children only. Then $100,000 and over use independent insurance companies? With maybe a small, very small tax break. Those making over $500,000 NO TAX BREAK and no medicaid.

I have mixed feelings about him. He is candidate with a guilt complex, who want to introduce his ideas thru power of the state. I dont mind him giving alot to his employees - I think its nobel. But he fails to understand that you cant force that on other companies. Also, companies who have more money can give more or invest more in their employees. I think his way is great way, but not the only and not the only needed one. He dont have free market principles. He didnt adressed FED - money printing/setting interest rates, massive regulation, taxation. Which is the real cause of the problem for the poor people. Allow freedom and lower regulation to the point of everyone having easier time to start a business, or gain more skills and therefore earn more.

I think Bloomberg is more certain in his judgment of the current political field to be unsavoury towards the independent ballot. Schultz has a similar impetus for the seat of presidency to, I'm afraid to say, trump, namely, in the raising of the American dream.
