Picked up a Howards 180305-8 & Elgin E1135P OE style SBC Hydraulic Roller Camshafts while bargain hunting for my 2020 projects! Can't wait to hear them and drive the cars!

I know I’m 4 years late but I run that Howard’s cam in a 355 with trick flow heads. 11.3:1 with a 67/68 z28 intake an and AED 650xp. Dyno with 1.75” headers it made 438/412. I run it in my nova with manifolds, 3.08, 3300 converter. It pulls to 6000-6200 with ease and runs great throughout the rpm range.

Howard makes good stuff. Being in Chicago they are not far away in Wisconsin. Have used them alot.

good dual plane 650 DP headeers either cam will be very torquey in a 350. Gears will help a bunch

Got the howard in a vortec 355 with 10:1, 1.6 rollers, 650dp, longtubes, 4000 stall. It pulls really hard to 6000-6200 and it does sound just like tour 77 at idle!

Good stuff man. I watched a few other videos from you, especially the carb emulssion bleed. One thing I would recommend is watching a couple of youtube SEO videos so you can better build your titles for more views.

Good Info, I am doing a 350 restore and ordered the infamous Elgin Ground, Zora Duntov 30/30 Flat Tappet Mechanical Cam for this Engine from Comp. Prod. With the face oiling lifters made by Morel and I am really looking forward to hearing it run. You would be surprised by just how many cam manufacturer's have Howard's Grind their bump sticks....I know I was. In my Race Cars I will only use Bullet Cams and Morel lifters mainly because they have NEVER FAILED TO MEET OR BEAT MY expectations but For a street car or street strip car....I have no problems with using Elgin or Howard's Bump Sticks.....

I think these days a lot of places will make one part type then sell/trade it to other venders so that they can have a variety. I think there is a place in Michigan that makes cams for oem's and a few aftermarkets

@@BOOT Hey your absolutely correct...I can't recall the name right off the top of my head but they too outsource for others. Little known Fact, Howard's top end bushed and bearing roller lifters as well as their best face oiling lifters are made for them by Morel....and anybody who has put their own money in a Drag Race Engine who wants the best but also the ability to rebuild them knows you just can't beat Morel.....period bar none hands down, 99.5% of all Top Dragster, Top Sportsman, Mountain Motor Pro Stock, Pro Mod, Even 8.50 index racers like me run Morel's stuff. Great Service and best of all their Top End Stuff......is fully re-buildable.....and when your running out of your own shop on a budget.....you might pay a little more up front but the ability to completely re-build the parts puts you money ahead in the long run.

@@BOOT Melling makes cams for OEMs and hotrods. They sell cores to a few cam brands.

Is the Howards from their Saturday night special series ? that single pattern with the 108* lobe separation angle, yup that's gonna be torquey and have a choppy idle, i couldn't find the Elgins lobe sep angle but i think it will be a little more mild manner as it has more gross duration , probably gonna have a we bit more top end ?

Don't think the Howards is, at least their website page doesn't say it. The Elgin is also 108 LSA according to a few sites that sell the cam but Elgins catalog doesn't have the LSA

I think there is a way to figure out the LSA with the specs Elgin does have but I'm not that concerned. I may advance the Elgin a few degrees if it ends up in my donor vortec budget build as planned

@@BOOT I was thinking of their Rattler series (check this one 118005-09) they are supposed to be a bit choppy and make big torque, they have one they call the Mamma Rattler too LOL! Im looking at this one for a 383 im piecing together right now, 110885-08 , i put in 0.100" longer valves and 1.800" install height so i could run a bunch more lift. its a factory roller block but im going with retrofit so i can use a Erson gear drive.

@@BOOT 110525-10S , This is their SNS Lift: .560 / .560, Duration @ .050: 227 / 233, Centerline: 106, Small Base Circle, Choppy idle, Saturday nite special, Street/Strip. Needs good intake, headers & 2500+ stall.

Both look like good cams. I picked the current Howards/Elgin based on an Elgin flat tappet I have in my 77 vette that I like. Also I wanted to use less cam n try LS blue springs and see if/how long they hold up.

@@BOOT .... Hey !!! I have that exact camshaft in a 355cid flat top motor pro action cylinder heads that were ported & Flowed alot.....( I can share all #'s ) the camshaft sounds freaking awesome, I actually have 1.6 roller rockers , which have little more lift @ 512 lift a gain of . More than . .032 of intake lift and a few degrees of duration too boot...lol... I'm running a "McFarland torklink" intake manifold with a custom Holley 4 barrell . I would advance the camshaft 4° degrees , my engine is in my 1932 3 window coupe behind a 350THM transmission and a 3.89 rear gear soooooo it's really light but its little lazy on taking off,,, but she's one bad sounding Bitch !!!!

Cool thx for the info, sounds like a fun ride! I might try 1.6 rockers later and deff am thinking of advancing it some. Always wanted to try that intake! I'm thinking the vortec heads & dual plane intake with a lot of tuning will help the low end with cam but we'll see LOL Also, Thx for the offer but I'm gonna stick with this cam, well unless another super deal turns up!

I have that same cam sitting on the shelf, gonna use it in a 97 350 I have stashed. Gonna throw a mild powerplant together just to have for something. That cam looks about perfect for that. Was gonna try a 95 LT1 cam in it, but I found that Elgin. Probably end up in my wife's Trans Am.

@@BOOT yep, just bought another Howard's roller about a month ago. It was around $280. Too bad all cams don't come with that plastic sleeve with the cap on it. I have a pile of them now.
