I like that you went into detail about what kinds of contrast he uses. It's a slippery topic to talk about because it's so vague and easily observable. Contrast is a basic art principle which means that pretty much any artist working in any medium will use it to some extent. The basic building blocks of any expression is a kind of contrast.

@@HowardWimshurst Yeah he's great! Especially his work in the new Mari Okada film. Just makes me sad that people dont really value character acting as much as flashy, fx heavy action animation like Nakamura's. Which also sad because Nakamura is a great character animator and adds a lot of fun character expression even throughout his over the top action scenes! Anyways just thought it'd be cool to highlight some animators who do character animation like Toshiyuki Inoue so that they can get the love they deserve and because it's so much fun to watch there stuff. Other than that, keep up the good work! The more I watch these the more I learn about the complexities of animation, always a fun watch!

luckily, a lot of it has already been made. Go onto my channel and browse back through all of my videos. Enjoy! The more important thing to pay attention to is how I learn things. You have to first learn how to learn. People always want answers, but the first they need to know the right questions to ask. Also, you can look through Alan Becker's tutorials on the fundamentals of animation if you need a less advanced place to start.

Howard Wimshurst that's great. Please consider doing analysis tetsuya takeuchi 's character animation. He and his student are the only Japanese animator I know doing lip syncing right
@HowardWimshurst
@HowardWimshurst 5 жыл бұрын
For sure, I would like to make some videos on character animation. Okiura's video would be focused mostly on how he captures nuances. Also would like to break down scenes from Mamoru Hosoda and Isao Takahata's films. Their films have great performances. Outside of their films, it is rare that I find an anime with performances (and I'm only talking about nuanced acting performances here) that meet my taste. Possibly because anime's performances are often dialed up so much. That also seems to be part of Japanese culture. I'm not criticizing it, I'm just saying that's often how it is, and that doesn't always fit my taste as a director or an animator. if you really want a school in character performance, I would suggest we look at people like Daniel Daylewis, Anthony Hopkins, Meryl Streep, Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Joaquin Pheonix, Nick Nolte

The part you are stuck so long is actually animation for animation's sake. arguably "cool" effects and nothing more.
@HowardWimshurst
@HowardWimshurst 5 жыл бұрын
yeah I guess I am deconstructing cool effects and nothing more for this one. I don't remember suggesting it was anything more than that.. I am actually obsessed with storytelling though. I'm working on three new videos about plot + storytelling techniques.
@HowardWimshurst
@HowardWimshurst 5 жыл бұрын
And I don't think there's anything wrong with flashy cool effects. Animators can make beautiful animated artwork if they want to and it can be great. I don't even have a problem with animation for animation's sake. I thought Mad Max Fury Road was a fantastic film, and that was a bonanza of big flashy effects. I'm not pretentious. I won't hang my head in shame for enjoying flashy effects, and I have a balanced diet of all different kinds of art.
